Spring always brings with it new growth and
change, but Spring 2018 is truly a force to be
reckoned with. Within the past six months we have
been able to witness some of the most dramatic and
poignant social change that our country has seen in
decades. Political affiliations aside, important topics
are finally being discussed and dissected, and roots
of corruption are beginning to get exposed. There
are many things a girl could say about the climate
of our society right now, but I choose to say that we
are lucky that our generation has the opportunity to
be here to witness it.
We are lucky that we are old enough to
understand and participate in conversations like the
#MeToo and Time’s Up movements. We are lucky
that we get to see women have more political, social
and economic rights and respect than ever before.
And we are lucky that we have the power to push us
over this tipping point – we are the generation that
will be remembered for how we chose to respond to
our society’s tide of radical opinions.
In this spring issue of Alice, we go to the front
lines of the debate on women’s role in the military,
bring the Time’s Up movement closer to home, and
learn how to better define the concept of beauty
across borders. Everyone knows that women are
strong, but it is how that strength is perceived
that needs to change. I want this mag to be a step
towards altering that perspective. This can only
be done by continuing to promote and foster the
creative expression of women on our campus and
beyond.
This issue invites you to step into a new
perspective on these everyday topics of interest and
debate, while also providing ways to better your life
as a college woman. My staff and I hope that these
stories of extraordinary women inspire you to get
involved and invested in the future that we get to
create and share together.
