The Umeå skyline will change over the
next few years when major investments
are made in a more concentrated city,
with new blocks and higher buildings.
New buildings for office, residential and
retail space, culture, hotels and conferences
will be constructed in parallel.
Norrporten is planning to develop the
Magne block by the Teg Bridge in the
city centre. The proposal would add
13,500 square metres of office, retail
and residential space.

Thyréns.
The Municipality of Umeå has 116,500 inhabitants.
The largest private employers are Volvo Trucks, Ålömaskiner and
GE Healthcare. A total of 12,000 companies are established in Umeå.
Within the public sector, the municipality, county council and university
employ the most people. The university has more than 36,700
students.
