Sundsvall is the hub of a region that represents Norrland’s largest employment market, with approximately 210,000 inhabitants. The city features excellent communications, with a nearby airport, railway connections, the E4 and E14 motorways and port facilities. Mid Sweden University, with 17,000 students is situated in the city centre. Sundsvall Town Hall will be given a new lease of life with the municipality’s commercial companies as tenants and a new visitor centre for tourists and citizens. Property owner <strong>Norrporten</strong> will remain involved in the development of Stora Torget, including a new entrance for the Town Hall. Major tenants <strong>Norrporten</strong>’s major tenants in Sundsvall are the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Police Authority, the Swedish Companies Office, CSN (student aid agency), the Swedish Courts Administration, the National Government Employee Pensions Board, IF and Skandia. The Municipality of Sundsvall has 96,100 inhabi- tants. The largest private employers are SCA, Metso, ISS, Kubal and Eka Chemicals. The banking and insurance industries continue to grow, as represented by Nordea, IF, Skandia, Trygg Hansa and Folksam, among others. Sundsvall proclaimed itself the “Capital of Norrland” in 2007. The municipality has been selected “Student City of the Year” a number of times by the National Swedish Union of Students.
