The Hunt for the Best
Burger in Town
1. Black Burger
Born from a love of American icon like In-N-Out Burger, Black Burger
launched post-lockdown and have been selling out every night. What
makes them so good? 100% Black Origin Wagyu beef patties stacked
on pillowy buns from Grizzly, paired with the freshest Canterbury
ingredients. All burgers can be served on gluten free buns and the
vegetarian/vegan patties from The Brothers Green pack a punch.
2. Bacon Bros
One of the Ōtautahi Christchurch’s most popular joints with a nearconstant
line of punters. Bacon Bros have more than 18 burgers, their
massive menu caters for everyone. They’ve sourced coconut bacon
so no one has to miss out, and it’s not just burgers. Their deep-fried
cauliflower is famous in its own right, and their hand cut fries are a
must-have side. Check out their second premises, Shaka Bros, at
Riverside Market.
3. Burger Burger
Burger Burger is all about good times, good people and good food.
Their burgers and sides are all made in-house from top quality produce.
Wash it all down with a Duck Island ice cream milkshake, a Sawmill
beer or a house-made cocktail. Be sure to check out their sundae bar
for dessert. Catering for all dietary needs, Burger Burger takes pride in
making everyone feel at home. In fact, the veggie burger is so gigantic
(and tasty) that getting your mouth around it is a feat of its own.
4. The Burger Joint
These guys earned their stripes flipping burgers in a caravan they
bought off Trade Me – their slick new joint in New Brighton testament
to their popularity. Roll up for hand-made Angus beef patties, or get
involved with the vegan version. Kimchi loaded fries are the ultimate
burger sidekick, alongside a Southpaw beer. You can still spot the
beloved caravan at local events or at Common Ground on Fridays.
5. OGB
OGB is a slice of vintage Christchurch right in the city centre. The Old
Government Building (OGB) it calls home was built in the early 1900s
and staff are dressed accordingly. Their burgers, however, are a modern
gastronomic experience. The fried chicken burger is served with kimchi,
provolone and fermented chilli mayo, and who could say no to a fried
halloumi burger. Of course, all served with hand-cut fries.
