Intriguing history

Standing proudly across the road from Riccarton Park raceway is
the Racecourse Hotel. Built in the late 1800s it was, and remains
today, a mainstay of the local community and the whereabouts
of a 1933 unsolved murder. But all intriguing ghost stories aside,
the hotel fronts the Racecourse Hotel & Motor Lodge – a modern
complex of quality accommodation, Hoofbeats Restaurant, the
Carbine Bar and the Sports Bar.
The motor lodge has 46 stylish yet affordable serviced studio
units, a refurbished three-bedroom self-contained unit complete
with full cooking facilities, and a spanking new block of six
superior king rooms with plush décor, digital flat screen TVs and
air conditioning. These rooms offer stunning views of the Alps and
raceway grounds. The motor lodge is also handy to the Sunday
Riccarton Market, Westfield Riccarton, Airforce Museum, The Hub
in Hornby and Ruapuna Raceway.
