This year which was under the influence of corona virus, enabled us to have advantages as well as
disadvantages. In this issue, besides the news which will draw attention to that, we are visiting the
sister lands, Azerbaijan, which is one of the most beautiful examples of the Turkish carpet world.
You will read with pleasure
Now digital time
Our publications have already been broadcasted via internet from the first issue we began
broadcasting life up to the present. It is not false to say that we better understand its important
Can diyarlardan
Can xalçalar…
motif mevcut.
Kabistan, Mereze, Pirhasanh, kurdemir, Balaken Baku,
sahiptir. Bu halılar Türk düğümü tekniğiyle dokunurlar.
Halılar sıkı, yumuşak ve kısa havlıdır.
Gence ve Kazak grubu
Bu gruptaki halılarda tıpkı diğerlerinde olduğu gibi
dokundukları yere göre isimlendirilerek ayrılmışlar.
Gence grubunda Gence, Gadim Gence, Samuh,
Çaylı, Şadlı, Kedabey ve Çarıklı halıları mevcuttur. Bu
merkezler Azerbaycan’ın batısında yer alırlar. Ayrıca
Çaykent ve Gölkent’de dokunan “Karakoyunlu” halıları
da bu sınıfa girer. Bu yerler Ermenistan’a yakın
olduğu için bunları yanlışlıkla Ermeni halısı zannedenler
olmuştur. Kazak grubunda ise, Kazak, Salahlı,
Şilili, Kemerli gibi yerlerin halıları bulunur. Ayrıca
Gürcistan’da yaşayan Azerbaycanlılar tarafından
dokunan halılar Borçalı, Karayazı, Koçhakan, Karacep
ve karakoyunlu bölgelerine aittir. Teknik yönden
benzer durumlara rağmen Gence-Kazak halıları ölçü
özelliklerine göre farklılık arz ederler. Mesela, Gence
benzerler. Karabağ halıları kompozisyonlarının
çeşitliliği, geometrik ve süslemeleri ile diğer halılardan
ayrılırlar. Karabağ’da halı, yolluk ve seccade
gibi “halı takımı” dokumaları daha yaygındır. Karabağ
halıları, başka halılara nispeten daha büyük ölçülerde
olur. Bazen 25 ve 30 metrekare halılara da rastlanır.
İlmek sayısı metrekarede 90.000 den 160.000’a
kadar ulaşır. Bazen her metrekarede 200.000 ilmesi
Beloved
carpets from
beloved lands…
A great number of descriptions, words or dialects are used to describe acquirements
Turks brought in to carpet art. This time, we are heading to a beloved land, Azerbaijan, a
brother country, in whose name and our hearts there is the syllable, ‘can’ (pronounced
like ‘John’), which means ‘dear or beloved’ in Turkish. Let’s have a closer look at the
carpets of this beautiful country which reflect the reddish colors of pomegranate seeds,
yellow tones of saffron, kehreba grapes and diverse colors of quince.
Azerbaijani carpets, acknowledged
by UNESCO in 2010 as
‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’
has sadly been put in display at
museums worldwide as being
Caucasian, Iranian or even
worse, Armenian.(1) Azerbaijani
tapises and carpets are pieces
of arts renowned globally with
their rich color diversity. There
are various patterns on those
tapises and carpets, some of
which are masterpieces. Tapises
and carpet weaving, one major
element of globally recognized
Azerbaijani cultural heritage
dates back to long time ago. Azerbaijani
carpets and tapises stand
out with their top-quality, perfect
composition and elegance as well
as color richness and patterns of all
sorts. Those which are woven with
silk, silver or golden color yarns are
priceless such as those woven with
pearls or other jewels. Some are literally
tantamount to paintings; They
contain lyric and romantic patterns
of flowers, human figures, animals,
geometric shapes and miniature art.
Weaving carpet in Azerbaijan is considered
art, a way of life or a symbol.
Patterns, color styles and composi-
tions on the sides vary from region to region. Oneof-a-kind
carpets and tapises, woven by competent
hands decorate famous museums such as Ermitage,
Louvre or Topkapı Palace as well as the Textile
Museum in Washington DC. One can easily notice
salient ornamentations and delicate patterns of carpets
identically put on paintings of European artists,
miniature pieces and many other pieces that are of
artistic value. (2)
Regional Classification of Azerbaijani Carpets
Azerbaijani carpets are classified into four groups in
terms of technical and aesthetic specifications; Kuba
and Şirvan; Gence and Kazak; Qarabag and Tabrîz .
Kuba and Şirvan Carpets
This group of carpets are sub-categorized into three;
Kuba, Şirvan and Baku, named after where they are
woven. The names of some are; Kuba, Hırdagülcici,
Alçakgülcici, Karakaşlı, Leçedi, Gırız, Şirvan, Kabistan,
Mereze, Pirhasan, Kurdemir, Balaken Baku, Gala
and Fatmayı. Despite the fact that they are technically
similar, these three styles of Kuba-Şirvan carpets
are considered ‘different carpets’ as Baku carpets
are more complex in their composition compared to
Şirvan carpets that involve more human, animal and
household figures. Some figures and patterns on the
borders are also displayed on architectural ornamentations.
Kuba-Şirvan carpets have 160000-200000
knots per sqm. Those with around 400000 knots are
much more precious. Harmoniously colored and woven
with Turkish knot technique, Kuba-Şirvan carpets
are enriched with tightly woven complex patterns and
short but fluffy texture.
more plain and geometrical to Kuba-Şirvan carpets.
Gence-Kazak carpets come in more with yellow,
green and orange colors. Knots on Kazak carpets
are Gördes style. They are not too tight, with between
60000 to 120000 knots per sqm. Rarely can one happen
to see carpets of up to 160000 knots per sqm.
Qarabag Carpets
In this category are Berde, Hankervanı, Çelebi, Boynuz
and Deryanur, famous with Şedde Verni and Zili.
Prominent masters of carpet art call them, “Aran carpets”.
Nakhchivan carpets are in this group of carpets
in terms of their technique and unique characterictics.
Malıbeyli, Bahçedegüller and Gülyaylık carpets of
Şuşa region are, too, in this category. Berde carpets
of Qarabag started to be woven widely in the city of
Şuşa as of XVIII century and the city became to be
known as a carpet center, which consequently made
Qarabag carpets known as Şuşa carpets. Carpets of
Hanlık, Karakoyunlu, Kubadlı, Kurd and Behmenli are
of Jabrayil origin. Carpets aforementioned and the
three regions (Qarabag, Şuşa and Jabrayil) are quite
like one another in terms of technique and aesthetics.
Qarabag carpets, however, slightly differ from others
as they are diverse and geometrically patterned.
Carpet, hall rug and prayer rugs, all in one ‘carpet
team’, so to speak, are widely known across Qarabag.
Gence and Kazak Carpets
Similar to other classifications, carpets in this group
are named after where they are woven. Gence carpets
are Gence, Gadim Gence, Samuh, Çaylı, Şadlı,
Kedabey and Çarıklı. These are locations to the West
of Azerbaijan. Additionally, ‘Karakoyunlu’ carpets,
woven at Çaykent and Gölkent are in this category. To
some, these carpets are misinterpreted as ‘Armenian’,
since these regions are close to Armenia. Kazak
carpet group have carpets of Kazak, Salahlı, Şilili and
Kemerli regions. In the meantime, Azerbaijanis living
in Georgia weave carpets of Borçalı, Karayazı, Koçhakan,
Karacep and Karakoyunlu.
Despite technical similarities, Gence-Kazak carpets
have different specifications in terms of their sizes.
Gence carpets are relatively bigger than Kazak ones.
Ornamental patterns on Gence carpets are more
complex. At times, one can see carpets and hall rugs,
associating carpets of Qarabag and South Azerbaijan.
The composition of these carpets are comparatively
September - October 2020 • DECOR
15
Qarabag carpets are relatively larger, sometimes up
to 25 to 30 sqm. The number of knots are between
90000 to 160000, which sometimes go up to 200000
per sqm.Composition of Qarabag carpets are relatively
more complex than those of Gence-Kazak.
Qarabag carpets have more of geometric figures of
plants with amply used colors such as red, golden
yellow, crimson and brown. “Gördes style” knots are
bulky and tall, technically identical to Tabrîz carpets
in terms of weaving specifications. Armenians who later
came to Qarabag and Şuşa learnt carpet weaving
from Azerbaijanis. As a matter of fact, Zedgenidze,
a Georgian researcher who was in Şuşa in 1886 was
quoted as saying the following truth: ”All the carpets
are woven by Azerbaijani families; Armenians learnt
that from them. ”
Tabrîz Carpets
Tabrîz carpets are very much like those of Qarabag,
so much so that they can be categorized as one.
Tabrîz , the capital city of South Azerbaijan is the center
of carpet industry in north west Iran. Flat weaving
are common on Tabrîz carpets. Additionally, one must
mention the fact that skilled miniature artists of XVI
century were in Tabrîz and that, in fact, contributed
to the pattern advancement on carpets. Particularly
as of the second half of XIX century, there happened
a huge surge of interest in carpet weaving. However,
Tabrîz carpets today and back then are quite different
in that synthetic dies are used on carpets whose knots
are generally thin. Medallion design is the commonly
chosen design on recent Tabrîz carpets. (3)
To sump up…
Carpet weaving, a primary element of traditional
Turkish arts and crafts has aways been a focus of
interest across the world. Azerbaijani carpets have
a distinguished place among Turkish carpets. Apart
from having a historical and traditional value, the
worldwide famous Azerbaijani carpets display the
beauty and climate of Azerbaijan. (4) One can keep
track of Azerbaijani carpets in recognized historical
records such as Tarihu’t-Taberî, Mucemü’l-Buldan
and Ahsenü’t – Tekasim(5)
Benim serüvenim de çocukluğumda başladı. Klişe
olarak değerlendirilir ama çocukluk insanın aynasıdır.
Her zaman boyalarla iç içeydim. İlkokulda okul koridorlarına
seçilen resimlerim benim gurur kaynağımdı.
Okul bahçesine sıra olmamız için çizilen çizgilerin
uzunluğunu, törenlerde sahneye koyulan çiçek aranjmanlarının
renk uyumunu, kitaplarımın kaplarının
üzerindeki desenlerin ne büyüklükte olması gerektiği
konularını kafamda hep tartışırdım. Hayatımdaki her
keyif veriyor. 3 sene kadar önce Yalova’nın Sugören
köyüne gitmiştim, burada bir ipek halı atölyesi olduğunu
duymuştum.
Hereke halıları dokunan bu atölyede, 8-10 tezgah vardı.
Dokuyucular kestikleri havları, bilindiği üzere tezgahın
altındaki küçük bir leğene atar. Çıkarken kapı
kenarında çuval çuval bu artıklardan gördüm. Saf ipek
olan bu iplik artıkları çöptü artık. Atölye sahibinden
izin alıp tüm ‘çöpleri’ arabama yükledim ve Istanbul’a
getirdim. Atölyemde tablolar üretmeye başladım.
Halıya bu kadar hür bir pencereden bakmasaydım,
onu oluşturan her şeyi sahiplenemezdim, bu oyunları
oynamasaydım halıyı anlayamazdım gibi geliyor.
Tüm bunları göz önünde bulundurduğumda, Bauhaus’un
sadelik derdinin, insanları sanatı ve tasarımı
anlamaya çalışmaya daha çok yakınlaştırdığını düşünürüm.
Bilhassa kadınların üretimde öncü olduğu
dönemde Anni Albers, Gertrud Arndt, Gunta Stölzl, Otti
Berger gibi kültleşmiş sanatçıların isimlerini zikretmeden
geçmek istemem. Günümüz oluşumlarından
söz etmem gerekirse Creative Matters oluşumunu
ilgiyle takip ediyorum.
Bellek. Aklımı scrapbook gibi kullanıyorum. Türkçe’ye
paçavra defteri olarak çevrilse de henüz onaylanmadığı
için orjinal adını kullanıyorum şu an. Gezdiklerim,
almak isteyenlere neler tavsiye edersin?
almak.
Guest Designer
Can we know Reyhan Polat a little bit?
I was born in Istanbul. I graduated from Mimar Sinan
Fine Arts University, Department of Traditional Turkish
Arts, Department of Carpet, Rug and Traditional
Fabric Patterns with an honor certificate. I also completed
my master’s degree in my own school. I continue
“Proficiency in Art” education. I am an academic in
the department of art, I graduated from.
“Carpet has a
sensitive place
between art and craft”
Reyhan Polat: “I believe the concepts
of art and design have emerged from
the beginning of self-discovery.”
Our designer guest in this issue is Reyhan Polat, who
graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University,
Department of Traditional Turkish Arts, Carpet, Rug
and Traditional Fabric Patterns Department, and
who portrays the carpet like a painting. Polat, who
still continues “Proficiency in Art” education, goes on
working as an academician in the department. Reyhan
Polat, saying that the concepts of art and design in
human beings started with self-discovery, explained
her adventure of meeting with carpet for us.
When and how did design come into your life?
I believe that the concepts of art and design have
emerged from the beginning of time in which the person
finds himself. That’s because the so-called talent
does not wait for the ambience or time to reveal itself.
Like all internal phenomena, it leads one to impulses
before thinking. The person necessarily finds himself
in the effort to produce something. My adventure
began in my childhood. It may be a cliché, but the
childhood is a mirror of person. I’ve always been with
paints. My paintings, selected for the school corridors
in primary school, were source of pride of me.
I always discussed the length of the lines drawn in
order to be in the school garden, the color harmony of
the flower arrangements put on the stage at the ceremonies,
and how large the patterns on the containers
of my books should be. I would try to put every frame
in my life in order. As I grew older, I perceived that this
was an effort to form a composition, the relationship
between occupancy and emptiness and aesthetic perception.
Green was green, but the hues were limitless
for me. I started studying painting in high school, and
in time I realized that I like not only painting but also
making surface design. The fabrics and carpets excited
me. Because their texture was sized as I wanted,
and I could feel it when I touched. When the university
time came, I took the exams of the school in my dream
and started to get academic education.
What do you remember when carpet is said
Carpet is like a borderless frame. I always thought it
didn’t differ from canvas. It is a free space in square,
rectangular, oval, or other amorphous states. I received
classical education in my department. This is one
of my biggest luck. That’s because what can an artist
or designer demolish without knowing the classic
and build something new, and how can he expand
his own liberation space? To me, in order to remove
the existing, it is necessary to assimilate it. How the
border must be, color unity needed in the classic
compositions and classic design rules to know are
my free space makers. After training in the academy,
contributing to the students with this thought became
matter to defend my freedom side. Like everybody
who thinks that the carpet is an art, without worrying
other people will like, the pleasure to compose makes
me nearer to carpet. When I approach to carpet, I
began to play with materials and the carpet. Uniting
non-warped wools and layer
fibers and making dimensions
with the felting technique.
Three years ago, I went to Sugören
village of Yalova, I heard
there was silk carpet workplace
there. In the place where
Hereke carpets were woven
there were 8- 10 carpet looms.
The weavers throw piles they cut in
a small basin under looms. While going
out, I saw many sacks near the door.
Those pure silks were remains. By taking
permission from the owner, I put them in my
car and brought to Istanbul. I began to produce
paintings. If I did not look at the carpet
from a free window, I wouldn’t have everything,
making carpet. It seems to me if I didn’t play those
games, I wouldn’t know the carpet.
Which movements and designers influenced
you in your student life and afterwards?
Beside the palace carpets, the period exactly I like
most is Bauhaus. The carpet has a place between
art and craft. You approach to that by choosing one
of them or try to enjoy this unity. Minimal effect of
Bauhaus and the revolution in the design understanding
influenced me. It is functional but not free from
art. There is an effort to beautify the life of not only
artist but also people. When I consider all, I think
Bauhaus make people understand the art and design.
In the period where the women are pioneers in the
production, I don’t ignore to mention the names of the
artists who are cults such as Anni Albers, Gertrud
Arndt, Gunta Stölzl, and Otti Berger. As for today’s
constitutions, I watch Creative Matters with interest.
This design team, all women forms, draws my attention
because they make designs by experiencing the
workplace process. I have been in the organizations
with Carol Sebert and Anna Panosyan. It is proud there
are such nice and successful
women in the world.
What is indispensable for you
when making a design?
Memory. I am using my mind
like a scrapbook. I am using its
original name even if it is translated
to Turkish as waste book.
The moments, I wander, I feel in
the wind, I take, and a movement
special to any place. Of course they
will not be nice always. A design of a dead
lizard, a damaged net of a spider, a fire.
Moment box I call life diary are my necessities.
The human learns, eliminates and collects.
Sometimes you read a book, the time passes, and
you don’t remember that book. But the soul remains,
the mind takes it. It cooks it and that’s out
of human’s will. Fortunately it is so. I like visual
collecting, I forget what I say and read, but I
remember what I see. Wherever the human tends, it
is tamed and it is limitless.
What would you recommend to those who want to
turn to design or take training related to it??
I may have some offers I do and I will do till the end
of my life: To train the eyes, read, depict, get lonely
without isolated, become self-sufficient everywhere
and every place, take picture, be interested in philosophy,
find different fields of interest, see the country
and the world, be merciful, don’t discriminate, know
the world, believe synergy and variety, dominate your
id, the rest is easy, to draw and study much.
Do you have anything to add?
When Michelangelo was asked how pretty you draw
picture, he said “1 percent is ability, 99 percent sweat.
We selected unlimited world, it is necessary to sweat
not to be lost.
Başaran Halı’dan
yeni yılda yeni
yatırımlar
Üretiminin %80’ini ihraç eden
Başaran Halı, online satış ile
alakalı çalışmalarını sürdürüyor.
Sektörde 35 yılı geride bırakan Başaran Halı, 2021 yılında
yeni yatırımlar yapacak. 2020 yılı ile birlikte gelen
sıkıntıların etkisini atlattıklarını söyleyen Başaran
Halı Genel Müdürü İbrahim Dayıoğlu, aynı zamanda
gelecek yıl online satışa da başlamayı planladıklarını
belirtti.
Öncelikle Başaran Halı ve markalarını sizden dileyebilir
miyiz?
neler? Halı sektörü bu konuda sizce ne durumda?
Pandemi sonrası tüm dünyada online satışlarda ciddi
bir artış oluştu. Şuanda ABD ve Avrupa pazarı başta
olmak üzere online satışların daha da büyüyeceğinin
sinyallerini vermekte. Türkiye ise online halı pazarında
artış görülmekte. Önümüzdeki yıllarda bu artış
hızı daha da belirginleşecek düşüncesindeyim. Bizim
marka olarak online satış sistemlerinin alt yapısıyla
ilgili çalışmalarımız sürmekte olup, 2021 yılı içinde
satışına başlamayı planlamaktayız.
Başaran Halı Genel Müdürü İbrahim Dayıoğlu
Son olarak neler eklemek istersiniz?
Firmamız kendi vizyonundan ve istikrarından ödün
vermeden sektörün aranan bir markası olacaktır.
Gaziantep olarak, dünyadaki makine halısı üretiminin
%70’lik kısmını üretiyoruz. Yenilikçi ve rekabetçi yapımızı
ortak akılla sürdürebildiğimiz sürece bu liderliği
ve başarımızı koruyacağımıza inanıyorum.
Başaran Halı, exporting 80 % of its production,
goes on working about online sales.
New investments from
Başaran Halı in the new year
Başaran Halı, leaving 35 years behind in the sector,
will make new investments in 2021. Başaran Halı
General Manager İbrahim Dayıoğlu, saying they
overcome the effects of the difficulties that come
with 2020, stated that they also plan to start online
sales next year.
First of all, can we ask you about Başaran Halı and
its brands?
Our brand’s story started with Başaran Tuhafiye
in the 1970s. Then in 1985 we started to produce
carpet. We have completed our 35th year in the
sector. We sell with our abroad sales and marketing
company Premier, and Prestige in domestic sales
and marketing. Our company can produce around 5
million square meters of carpet annually by using
the latest technologies in its production lines. We
also produce PP yarn by ourselves.
How did the recent pandemic process affect the
domestic market and exports?
The pandemic process in early 2020 almost stopped
the production in April and May. But after June,
more hopeful developments took place. Later, with
the intense demands from abroad triggered production.
Currently, there is a situation above the expectations
for 2020. Domestic markets also partially
took their share of this.
26 DECOR • September - October 2020
Can you give information about your new products?
Which products are the people looking for in this
period?
Our foreign customers tended to more economical
carpets for online sales. But sales of other qualities
continue to a certain extent. Customers prefer more
pattern and color harmony as well as economical
carpets. As the carpet culture is more dominant
in the domestic carpet market, acrylic products
are preferred. At the same time, decorative products
are up to date. With our Prestige Halı brand,
we make acrylic, custom-sized hallway rugs and
digitally printed carpet collections for our domestic
customers and offer up-to-date colors and patterns
to our customers.
Can you give information about the developments
in export studies?
Başaran Halı is a brand which exports 80 % of its
production to various countries over the world and
focuses on customer satisfaction and quality in the
sector. We are going on exporting many countries
such as USA, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Europe.
In 2021 we will continue to work with new investments
by targeting the product and quality variety.
What are your studies and thoughts about online
sales? How is the carpet sector about this topic?
An increase occurred in the online sales all over the
world after pandemic. Now it shows growing signals
about the online sales in USA and Europe markets.
In Turkey there is an increase on online carpet
market. I think this increase will be more in the next
years. We continue the studies about infrastructure
of online sales and plant to begin to sell in 2021.
What would you like to add last?
Our company will be a sought-after brand in the
sector without compromising its vision and stability.
As Gaziantep, we produce 70% of the machine
carpet production in the world. I believe that as long
as we can maintain our innovative and competitive
structure with common sense, we will maintain this
leadership and our success.
Kurulduğumuz günden bu yana üst segment
muhtelif markaların distribütörlüğünü yapan firmamızı,
oldu. Farklı ülkelere ihracat yapmak için herhangi
bir enge- limiz yok. Bunlardan önce ihracatın
önünü açabilmek için yapmamız gereken çalışmalar
var.
Health at the floor
The “healthy” principle, becoming our
first priority in every product we buy
recently, is entering our homes with the
DesignFloor brand on the floor.
DesignFloor, making a big service net with more than
135 selling points in Turkey, the Middle East and Central
Asia, serves the domestic market with 75 dealers.
The brand, which includes products that have the PEFC
certificate, which is a fo- rest certification approval
program, brings especially healthy, environmentally
friendly and carcinogen-free products to consumers.
DesignFloor General Director Fatih Aslan stated that
they are very confident in their brands and their goal is
to export to the world with completely unique DesignFloor
products.
Can you tell us about the Design Floor brand?
Our brand, which has been operating since 2006, produces
qualified flooring products. After I took office in
the company, we started to work to appeal to higher
segment customers and directed our route in this way.
We have turned our company, which was previ- ously
the distributor of various brands, into a brand that produces
special products, which is neither a manufacturer
nor an importer under its name. After this process,
the process to spread to Turkey began. Now, we have
around 75 dealers and this num- ber is increasing
every month. Our goal is to be in all 81 provinces.
What would you like to say about the flooring products
you produce and their properties?
We sell high-tech and upper segment products which
are waterproof like laminated, laminated flooring and
hi-tech laminate flooring, which we call LVT. We produce
them within a certain program. We attach great importance
that the products we sell are environmentally
friendly and do not contain carcinogenic substances.
That is a priority for us. It is important for us that the
consumer will use long-life and healthy product. It is
because it is the product, di- rectly contacting with skin.
Basically the babies touch parquets with their hands
and also lick. We cannot take a risk to earn much. We
rely on our product. Even I claim that there are no brands,
trusting their produ- cts as much as we do.
30 DECOR • September - October 2020
Where are your products manufactured?
We are making the firms which have certain accredi-
tations and certificates such as low emission, CE
and PEFC in France and Germany manufacture. We
ensu- re that personal carbon footprint is kept to a
minimum within the scope of sustainability. While
glossy parqu- ets have AC4 wear layer and 32nd class
strength, they can last for many years without the need
for scraper polish. After producing, we have a lot of
waste. We made a new study about it and we make this
waste wood for fireplace. We want to operate it in social
media. It is because its amount is very much.
Where do you export? What are your future goals?
We export to Iran, Iraq and Malta. We had different and
new ideas with the sales points in these countries we
export to. However, the pandemic process caused us
to postpone these studies. We do not have any barriers
to export to different countries. Before these, there
are studies we need to do to pave the way for exports.
The companies we make manufacture have dealers
in European countries. We need to customize these
products that we have made in order to export here. We
do not consider it ethically appropriate to export there
without doing this.
Ayasofya’nın halılarını
Özkul Halı dokudu
Özkul Halı Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Behçet Özkul
Fethin sembolü Ayasofya-i Kebir Cami-i Şerifi, 24
Temmuz günü tekrardan ibadete açıldı. Böylesine
önemli bir yapının halılarını kimin dokuyacağı ise
merak konusuydu. Desen ve renk tercihini bizzat
Cumhurbaşkanı Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’nın yaptığı,
havlarının kıbleye doğru yatırıldığı, kanserojen maddenin
bulunmadığı bu yüksek özellikli halı, Özkul Halı
tarafından dokundu. Halıyı dokurken kullanılan ürünlerin
%100 yün ve yerli olduğuna dikkat çeken Özkul
Halı Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Behçet Özkul, bu heyecanlı
ve duygusal serüveni bize anlattı.
Öncelikle Özkul Halı’yı sizden dinleyebilir miyiz?
Özkul Halı markasının 4. kuşak yöneticisiyim. Firmamız
Türkiye’nin geçmişi çok eskilere dayanan sanayi
işletmelerinden biridir. Markamız İbrahim Özkul
tarafından1912 yılında ahşap tezgahlarda el dokuma
ve yün halı üretmek hedefi ile kurulmuştur. 1952
beklediği, İstanbul’un fetih sembolü olan Ayasofya-i
Kebir Cami-i Şerifi’nin açılışı, Danıştay kararı neticesinde
Devlet Başkanımız Recep Tayyip Erdoğan
tarafından duyurulması ile başladı bu süreç. Devletimizin
neler? Tüylerin kıbleye doğru yatırılması, motif ve
renk seçimi gibi halının özelliklerinden bahseder
misiniz?
Üretime başladığımızda fabrikada içersin de tatlı bir
telaş vardı. Zaman kavramını kaldırdık. Çok kısıtlı
bir sürede yün iplik üretip, boyamasını yaptık. Daha
sonra ilk sevkiyatımızı 18 Temmuzda yaptık. Açılış
günü sabahına kadar sevkiyatlar durmadı. 6 gün
boyunca 8 adet halı döşeme personelimiz, gelen
halıları sermeye devam ettiler. 24 Temmuz sabah saat
09.00 da Ayasofya-i Kebir Cami-i Şerifi, açılışa hazır
hale geldi.
Ayasofya-i Kebir Cami-i Şerifi içerisine döşenen halı
çok özel. Rengiyle, malzemesiyle, gramajıyla en üst
kalite bir halı. Yüzde yüz yün ve yerli bir üretim. 1 metrekaresi
5 kilogram geliyor.
Boya kanserojen
madde içermiyor ve cilde temas ettiğinde alerji yapmayan
çevreci bir boyadır. Halı iplikleri Langsess Eulan
maddesiyle güve ve benzer haşerelere karşı koruma
altına alınmıştır. Antibakteriyel olup virüs ve bakteri barındırmamaktadır.
Halının üzerindeki desen ise Osmanlı
motifi olan, sanat dilinde ‘rumi’ diye isimlendirilen
çok soft bir desen. Çok belirgin değil ve halının üzerinde
gölge şeklinde duruyor. Renk olarak ördekbaşı yeşili
tercih edildi. Desen ve renk tercihini Devlet başkanımız
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan bizzat kendisi yapı.
Yapmış olduğunuz diğer büyük cami ve contract
projelerinden de bahseder misiniz?
Özkul halı 1960 yılından günümüze yurtiçinde ve
yurtdışında 48000’in üzerinde projede halı serimi
gerçekleştirdi. Bütün yaptıklarımızı yazmamız mümkün
olmayabilir ama özel projelerden bahsetmezsek
olmaz. Fatih camii, Süleymaniye Cami, Şehzadebaşı
Camii, Eminönü Yeni Cami, Eyüp Sultan Cami, Nuruosmaniye
Cami, Yıldız Hamidiye cami, Ortaköy Cami,
Rüstempaşa Camii, Edirne Selimiye cami, Bursa
Ulu Camii ve Yeşil Camii, Ankara Hacı Bayram-ı Veli
Camii, TBMM camii, Konya Mevlana Sultan Selim
en önemlileri. Yurtdışında ise Japonya Tokyo camii,
Almanya Berlin Şehitlik Camii, Kazakistan Nur Astana
istiyoruz.
out such a divine mission. Color and design selection
of the carpet of such a sacred monument was made
by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Behçet Özkul,
a board member at Özkul Halı said the fluffs of the
carpet were designed to lean towards qibla and that
no carcinogen agents were used in the making. Underlying
the fact that the material used on carpet was
100% wool and domestic, Özkul told us about their
enthusing and emotional time course.
Hagia Sophia’s
carpet woven by
Özkul Halı
Hagia Sophia’s carpet, which was
reopened for worship this year, was
woven by Özkul Halı, which pioneered
the trend of exclusively customized
mosque carpets in Turkey.
Symbol of the conquer, the Grand Mosque of Hagia
Sophia was reopened for worship on July 24th. What
company would weave the carpet of such an iconic
building was the talk of the town for quite some time.
The choice was made; it would be Özkul Halı to carry
To begin with, let’s hear Özkul Halı from you
I’m the 4th generation manager of Özkul Halı, which
is one of the industrial enterprises, whose foundation
dates far back, to 1912 by İbrahim Özkul to weave
hand-made, wool carpets on wooden looms. Then
came Mehmet Behçet Özkul, founder’s son, who
bought Turkey’s first carpet weaving machine from
German company, Felix Tonnar in 1952. The objective
was always to produce 100% pure wool carpets for
residences. In the year 1960, Özkul Halı pioneered the
production of customized mosque carpets with Sultan
Ahmet Mosque, one of the most venerable places,
commonly known as the Blue Mosque. Continually
modernizing the machinery through time, our company
proudly serves venues such as djemevis, dormitories,
Quran teaching schools and hotels where
people congregate. Compatible to the criteria of Woolmark,
globally recognized standards, our products
are anti-bacterial and non flammable apart from not
involving nylon, acrylic or polyester ingredients in any
form, whatsoever. Reactive dyestuff, used to color
the yarn, has high purity of light and color without
causing any sign of allergies, so much so that they are
ecologically friendly and that they can be used in the
making of children’s wear without any worries at all.
In short, Özkul Halı is an integrated company where
wool comes into the company from one entry and gets
out from the other as carpet, if you will.
It’s your company that weaved the carpet of the
Grand Hagia Sophia Mosque. Will you please tell us
about all the way from the beginning to the completion
of laying the carpet?
Iconic symbol of the conquer, Hagia Sophia mosque’s
grand reopening for worship had been antipicipated
long by all the muslim world. Subsequent to the verdict
of the State Council, the process was initiated by
the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s proclamation.
Upon being officially convoked by government authorities
to further and finalize the procedures both in
İstanbul and Ankara, we got the production going full
steam.
36 DECOR • September - October 2020
What specifications did you add on the carpet, exclusively
unique to Hagia Sophia? Please tell us more
about the direction of the fluffs, patterns and color
selection.
We had an emotional and exciting rush at the company
soon after we started production; no time limit
for anyone at the company during production. In no
time did we produce the yarn and color it. We made
the first phase of delivery on July 18th. There was no
stoppage of delivery till the very morning of the opening.
8 people of our company kept laying the carpet
for 6 days and the Grand Hagia Sophia Mosque was
all set for the inauguration day at 9 a.m. on July 24th.
We, as Özkul Halı, are proud that we kept our promise
and that we are a part of such a historic event. We
truly appreciate particularly our President and other
government authorities in line for their trust with
us. The carpet laid is unique, a top quality product in
terms of all the details such as color, material and
density. It’s 100% pure wool and domestically made.
1 sqm of it weighs 5 kg, with the thickness of 16 mm.
Additionally, the carpet features a characteristics,
solely distinctive to itself; the fluffs of the carpet is
designed to lean towards qibla with a second to none,
steamrolling operation. Why we have chosen to put
such a unique application on Hagia Sophia’s carpet is
that color shading occurs on spots where knees touch.
To be able to prevent it from happening, we have
applied such a unique operation on the carpet.
In addition to all that, we preferred to apply reactive
dye, rarely used in Turkey for the yarn. The dye is
ecologically friendly and contains neither carcinogen
agents nor allergens. The carpet is protected against
viruses and bacteries as well as moths and bugs by
Langsess Eulan SPA. The design on the carpet is a
soft Ottoman motif which is called, ‘Rumi’ in art circles.
It’s faint and it appears like a shade on the carpet.
As for the color, glossy green head of mallards was
chosen personally by our President, Recep Tayyip
Erdoğan.
Bayram-ı Veli Mosque, Turkish National Assembly
Mosque in Ankara, Konya Mevlana Sultan Selim
Mosque and Kapu Mosque. Some of the international
projects that are worth mentioning are Tokyo Mosque
in Japan, Şehitlik Mosque in Germany, Nur Astana
Mosque in Kazakhstan, Sana’a The People’s Mosque
(Formerly Al-Saleeh Mosque) in Yemen, Maryland
Turkish American Association Mosque in the US, East
London Mosque in England, Johannesburg Midrand
Nizamiye Mosque and Sala’m Mosque in Oman. These
are only a small portion of plenty of remarkable
projects for which Özkul Halı was a solution partner
with its 108 year expertise. Having started operation
in 1912, Özkul Halı has, since then, adopted the pioneering
role in carpet making for grand scale floors
using 100% wool. As the new generation managers of
the company, we only have one principle: maintaining
top quality production, regardless of anything to pass
our family legacy on to forthcoming generations and
remain to be the leading company globally.
What about other grand mosques and projects that
you completed ?
Özkul Halı has completed laying carpets in more
than 48000 projects in and out of the country since
1960. Obviously, it’s not possible to mention all
the projects, but some are worth mentioning: Fatih
Kreasyon Halı’dan
kolay temizlenebilir
halılar
Son dönemde yaşanan olaylar, e-ticareti üreticilerin
satış kanalları arasında üst sıralara çıkarttı. Buna
Süreç daha önce yaşanılmamış, lokal olmayan;
aksine dünyanın her tarafında olunca herhangi bir
tedbir almak tabi ki mümkün olmadı. Mahallemizdeki
ekmeğe bile ulaşmak sıkıntılı olurken, sağlık hariç
hiçbir sektör çalışamadı. Yurtiçinde ve dışarıda tüm
pazarlarda can kaygısı oluşması, ihtiyaç sıralamasında
alt seviyelerde olan halı sektörü için uzamaması
temenni edilen kara günlere dönüştü. Bu süreçte
Online ticaretin daha az temas odaklı olması insanlar
için güvenli bir liman oldu. Altyapısı ve alışkanlıkları
online alışverişe uygun ülkelerde ise ticaretin bir
nebze hareketlenmesi bu süreçte can suyu oldu.
tutma hedefindeyiz. Hizmet kalitesi ile birlikte katma
değerli bir ihracat gelecekte bizi bekliyor diyebiliriz.
Yurtiçinde kendi web sitemizle, ulusal ve tüm pazaryerlerinde
direk online hizmet vermekteyiz.
an en büyük hedefimiz. Halı sektörü üretim zorluğu,
karsızlık, tahsilat problemleri ile boğuşurken, online
pazarda hakkettiği payı henüz alamamıştır. Örnek
verecek olursak ayakkabı internetten zor satılır
veya ayakkabı internetten alınmaz diyen nesil artık
ikisinin de çok kolay olduğunu anladı. Halı sektörü
bu değişime hızlıca inanmalı ve ayak uydurmakta
gecikmemelidir.
Bu halıya
iyi bakın!
Onun adı Sahasrāra.. Bir şifacının
geleneksel bilgiler ışığında ortaya
çıkardığı bu şekli Yıldızlux, halıya
dokudu.
geldi.
Yerel şifacılar tarafından Sahasrāra adı verilen ve
vücudumuzdaki titreşimleri yükselttiğine inanılan bu
sembol, bu sayede insanların bağışıklık sistemini güçlendiriyor.
Sahasrāra, hastalanma kaygısı güttüğümüz
bu dönemde, 243 hz frekans titreşimi ile bedenimizin
en tepesindeki çakramızdan yayılıyor ve bağışıklığımızı
güçlendiriyor.
Yıldızlux bu sembolü halıya dokudu
Avrupa’daki ilk 10 hand tuft üreticisinden biri olan Yıldızlux,
Sahasrāra sembolünü halıya dokudu. Hand tuft
tekniğinin Türkiye’deki en eski temsilcisi olduklarının
altını çizen marka ortaklarından Eda Anjel Sahasrāra
hakkında şunları söyledi: “ Bu sembol virüslerden
kaygılandığım bir dönemde bana Peru’daki bir şifacı
tarafından gönderildi. Bu görsele uzun süre bakmamın
vücuttaki enerji titreşimlerini yükselterek bağışıklığı
güçlendireceği bilgisi verildi. Bende bana ulaşan bu
bilgiden herkesin faydalanması gerektiğine inandım.
Bu sebeple bu görseli halıya dokuduk.” dedi.
Eda Anjel: “Gören gözlere şifa”
Dokudukları bu halıya Sahasrāra ismini verdiklerini
söyleyen Anjel, sözlerine şu şekilde noktaladı: “Mağazamız
Yıldız semtinde çok işlek bir caddede bulunuyor.
Bu halıyı dokuduktan sonra özellikle mağaza vitrinimize
koyarak, buradan geçen insanların halıya bakmasını
ve faydalanmasını istedik. Bu halı, bakan herkese
faydalı olsun düşüncesindeyiz.”
Take a good look
at this carpet!
It’s called Sahasrāra.. Having been
brought to life by some healer using
traditional heritage, the figure was
woven on carpet by Yıldızlux.
That mysticism has influences on human life is a common
belief. The faith that has been used in local circles
across the world as an alternative medical means attracts
gradually boosting attention as the virus has entered
our lives.
The symbol, called, ‘Sahasrāra’ and believed to boost
energy and vibration on our body by local healers is considered
to fortify the immune system. During hard times
like now when we are terribly concerned about getting
sick, Sahasrāra is believed to emit 243Hz frequency
energy from the crown chakra to recover immune system
within the body.
Yıldızlux weaved the symbol on carpet
Being one of the ten, hand-tuft producers in Europe,
Yıldızlux put the design on the carpet. Underlining the
fact that they are the oldest hand-tuft technique user in
Turkey, Eda Anjel, a partner of the brand told us more
about Sahasrāra. “I was sent this symbol by a healer in
Peru when I was anxious about the viruses and I was notified
of the fact that it would enhance immune system by
boosting frequency vibrations. I, then, had the belief that
anyone would benefit from this spiritual approach. That’s
why we put the symbol on this very carpet.”
Eda Anjel: “healing to spiritually seeing eyes”
Adding that they named the carpet, ‘Sahasrāra’, Anjel
concluded her comments: “Our store is on a busy Street
at Yıldız. We put the carpet on display window so as
to have people look at and benefit from it. We wish that
the carpet could make people feel good. That’s our sole
purpose.”
New date of DOMOTEX 2021: 18-20 May
The reasons for the postponement are based on the
latest developments regarding the worldwide rampant
COVID-19 pandemic. There is a general uncertainty
in relation to travelling abroad. Many countries
have introduced strict travel and quarantine regulations
and it is impossible to predict for how long these
regulations will be in place.
“It is our duty to act responsibly. From many conversations
with exhibitors and partners we have learned
that, first and foremost, we have to ensure planning
security in good time”, says Dr. Andreas Gruchow,
board member of Deutsche Messe AG. “With our
comprehensive hygiene and safety concept, as well as
with the positive registration situation, we were very
optimistic until very recently. But the latest developments
show that we do not know whether the travel
situation will have significantly improved by January
2021. Consequently, we have decided to postpone
DOMOTEX from January to May 2021. The discussions
that we had with industry representatives on this
issue have all been positive and have shown that the
postponement is the right decision!”
Although two thirds of the exhibition space – about
62,000 square meters – had already been booked and
a comprehensive hygiene concept had been developed
to comply with COVID-19 safety regulations, Deutsche
Messe AG has decided to postpone the next edition of
DOMOTEX to 18 – 20 May 2021. The show was originally
scheduled to take place from 15 – 18 January
2021. The reasons for the postponement are based
on the latest developments regarding the worldwide
rampant COVID-19 pandemic and on the fact that, in
view of these developments, clients, exhibitors and
visitors have asked for DOMOTEX to be held at a later
date. DOMOTEX is now planning a digital conference
to take place on 15 January 2021, the show’s original
start date.
The wide international reach and high-calibre visitors,
such as top decision makers, are considered to
be among the core benefits of DOMOTEX, the leading
trade show for carpets and floor coverings: in January
2020, 70 percent of visitors came from abroad and
more than 80 percent of exhibitors represented more
than 60 nations. As every year, the flooring industry
came together in Hannover. Now, the latest developments
in the COVID-19 pandemic show that infection
rates are rising again everywhere. Many countries
have introduced strict travel and quarantine regulations
and it is impossible to predict for how long these
regulations will be in place. There is also a general
hesitation to travel abroad and we do not know when
people will feel safe to travel again. And then again,
there is also the prospect that a vaccine may be available
by the end of this year.
Something else has also become clear in the many
discussions with stakeholders: there is a need for
complementary digital formats in order to respond
to the rapidly rising number of online channels in the
flooring industry and to establish an international,
neutral platform under the name of DOMOTEX. Therefore,
DOMOTEX 2021 will take place from Tuesday
to Thursday (18 – 20 May) as a hybrid event: a physical
show complemented by virtual formats. Visitors who,
for differing reasons, will be unable to travel in May,
will thus at least have an option to participate digitally.
For exhibitors, the hybrid format also guarantees
the wide international reach for which DOMOTEX is
known: physically, in the exhibition halls and also
digitally extended, using new presentation formats to
generate an even wider reach.
Perakendenin büyüyen markası
Bella Maison’un yeni mağazaları
Ev tekstili markası Bella Maison, İstanbul İstinyePark’ta
büyümeye devam ediyor. Bella Maison, yılsonuna kadar
yaklaşık10 milyon TL yatırımla mağaza sayısını 17’ye
çıkarmayı hedefliyor. Mağaza açılışları hakkında bilgi
veren Bella Maison Yönetim Kurulu Başkanı Muhammed
Tan, pandemi süreci ve E-Ticaret serüvenlerini siz
okurlarımız için anlattı.
Markanız adına son dönemde faaliyetlerinizi değerlendirir
misiniz?
Marka olarak kurulduğumuz günden bu yana ürünlerimizin
kalitesine yatırım yaptık. Yurt içinde ve yurt
dışında büyüme stratejimize de ürünlerimizin kalitesine
olan güvenimiz temel oluşturdu.
Tüm dünyayla birlikte benzerine daha önce hiç rastlamadığımız
bir dönemi yaşarken, AVM’lerin uzun
süre kapalı olduğu süreçte bile mağaza yatırımlarımıza
devam ettik.
adventures for you, our readers.
Could you evaluate your recent activities on behalf of
We have invested in the quality of our products since
the day we were founded as a brand. Our confidence
in the quality of our products was the basis for our
living in a period that we have never encountered before,
we continued our store investments even during
the period when shopping malls were closed for a
long time. We care about being a store with the aim
of being an accessible and stylish brand. We offer our
special products consisting of wide product groups
So, what kind of precautions have you taken in business
life?
In this process, we switched to a remote working model
with our employees and we still continue. Some
teams, such as the accounting department that have
to work physically, go to the office compulsorily. But
our design and digital teams go to as few offices as
possible. There are days we assign to all of them. We
ensure that our employees who use public transportation
come to work with our company vehicles. When
we are unable to do this, we revise the working hours
according to the hours when public transportation is
used less.
Did you have a goal to open an office in Germany?
What has this process come to with the recent developments?
We have established an office and logistics network in
Germany. After our venture in Turkey Our aim was to
bring our brand to the European market. We wanted
this from the very beginning. Home textile products,
one of the most important items exported from Turkey
to Germany. In this sense, we have made agreements
with the websites there. Our friends, who will manage
these operations in the German region, will join
us as soon as possible. Our goal is to have a logistics
network that will cover the whole of Europe.
E-Commerce ranked first in sales and marketing
during this period. What have you done in this regard
as a brand?
We have been positively affected by the pandemic. Because
E-Commerce is one of the channels we invest
in. Therefore, our sales increased significantly there.
With this increase, we also invested more and more.
After these investments, the number of our customers,
who started to see the products on the internet,
increased. 6 out of 10 customers want products they
see on the internet. Consumers’ habits have also
changed with the events we have experienced recently.
Now, our customers, who search for products on
the internet and decide, come to buy products directly
from the store. This shows us that E-Commerce has
gained a much larger volume now.
We will continue to offer a wide range of products with
high quality standards in the cosmetic, home wear
and home decoration categories, as well as bedroom,
kitchen and bathroom textile group products through
both our physical stores and e-commerce channels.
Halı tasarımcıları artık bir arada
Halı Tasarım Derneği HATAD, Gaziantep’te kuruldu
“HATAD Yönetim Kurulu Başkanı Selçuk Sayılı”
Halının başkenti Gaziantep, artık tasarımında başkenti
olmaya aday. 2020 yılı ile birlikte GAIB öncülüğünde
kurulan ve HATAD (Halı Tasarım Derneği)
adını alan dernek, çalışmalarını uluslararası alana
taşıyacak. Derneğin kuruluşu ve yapılacak çalışmalar
hakkında bilgi veren HATAD Yönetim Kurulu
Başkanı Selçuk Sayılı, farklı ülkelerin ilgili bölümlerinde
okuyan öğrencilerle ve tasarımcılarla birlikte
yarışmalar ve konferanslar düzenleyeceklerini
belirtti.
Öncelikle tasarımcılar için bir dernek kurma fikrine
nasıl karar verdiniz?
Gaziantep’te çok tasarımcı bulunuyor. Devlet bunlar
içerisinde sadece üniversite mezunu olan kişileri
tasarımcı olarak tanıyor. Son yıllarda üniversite
mezunu tasarımcıların sayısı artsa da, şuanda alaylı
tasarımcı sayısı daha çok. Devlet, bu kişilerin tasarımcı
olduğunun, bunun için de resmi bir kurumdan
tasarımcı olduklarına dair belgelere sahip olması
gerektiğini söylüyor. Markaların da bundan faydalanması
adına HATAD (Halı Tasarım Derneği) Gaziantep
Şehitkamil Sanat Merkezi’nde kuruldu.
60 DECOR • September - October 2020
Levent Çepken, H. Erhan Karaman, Tayfun Cevher,
Ömer Türk, Pervin Sayar, Selçuk Bekler, Osman Köseler,
Naime Çalık, Abuzer Balyemez ve Ayşe Kayalar
bulunuyor. Biz yönetimi oluştururken aldığımız karar
doğrultusunda yönetim kurulunun 6 ay görevde kalmasını,
daha sonra tekrar seçim yapılarak yeni yönetim
kurulunu seçmeyi kararlaştırdık. Çünkü bunun bir
bayrak yarışı olduğuna inanıyoruz. Böylelikle herkes
taşın altına elini koymuş olacak.
Carpet designers are together
Carpet Design Association
HATAD was founded in Gaziantep.
The capital of the carpet, Gaziantep, is now a candidate
to become the capital of its design. The association,
called HATAD (Carpet Design Association) founded
with GAOB in 2020 will move its studies to the international
field. HATAD chairman Selçuk Sayılı, mentioned
the association and its studies, stated that they will
arrange meetings and contests with together the students,
trained in the relevant departments in different
countries and the designers.
How did you decide to establish an association for
the designers firstly?
There are many designers in Gaziantep. The government
only recognizes university graduates as designers.
Although the number of university graduate
designers has increased in recent years, the number
of self-thought designers is now higher. The government
says that these people are designers, and for
this, they must have documentation from an official
institution that they are designers. HATAD (Carpet Design
Association) was founded in Gaziantep Şehitkamil
Art Center in order for brands to benefit from this.
OK, how was HATAD founded?
We formed board of directors with willing 11 friends
as designers. We looked for an office for this. We met
Şahinbey Municipality while looking for. Şehitkamil
Mayor Rıdvan Fadıloğlu gave us 2 rooms and workplaces
in this center in which there are exhibition hall
and conference hall. We want to move the cultural and
artistic and other activities to the international level.
We are continuing the studies in order for the students
from the relevant departments in the various
countries’ universities. Because of pandemic in 6
months, though there have been some troubles in our
attempts, we are sure we will take results about our
studies later on.
And then we thought there must be a place to meet
the visitors and our designers will spend time We
opened Steps Café in the entry of art center for the
members and designers of the association to spend
time beside studies..
What kind of activities are you planning to do as an
association?
Our main goal here is to expand the horizons of designers
and increase their self-confidence. We will try
to support the designers here so that they can fully
demonstrate their true performance and abilities.
Thus, I am hopeful that in the future, works that will
guide the sector make new creations and perhaps
determine trends will come out from Gaziantep, the
capital of carpet.
Who is the board of directors? How long will this
board work?
Levent Çepken, H. Erhan Karaman, Tayfun Cevher,
Ömer Türk, Pervin Sayar, Selçuk Bekler, Osman Köseler,
Naime Çalık, Abuzer Balyemez and Ayşe Kayalar
are under the management of our association, which
I head. While forming the management, according to
the decision we made, we decided to keep the board of
directors in office for 6 months, then after re-election
and electing the new board of directors. Because we
believe this is a relay race. Thus, everyone will have
taken the responsibility.
with the international companies represented at FWB
all important information on the brand, products
inter-connecting aspects of space, with reference to
decoration, office space and other fields. C+D Shanghai
injected new vitality to the show and lays the
ground for more development both in terms of what
the exhibition has to offer and in terms of a greater
more diverse audience as it attracted a great number
of contract and decoration buyers. Within the C+D
Shanghai Contract and Décor Exhibition frame, the
tailored industry conference on Interior Prefabricated
Decoration (IPD) gathered more than 300 interior
decoration companies and more than 30 of the biggest
names in construction in China along with various
construction developers and related suppliers, which
discussed among others the latest trends in digital
transformation and industrialization.
All eyes on March 2021
Despite the global health and economic challenges,
DOMOTEX asia/CHINAFLOOR held a successful
edition in 2020 and managed to still provide a trade
platform for flooring professionals in a much-needed
time. DOMOTEX asia/CHINAFLOOR will continue,
Royal’den Milli Koleksiyon; Denim!
Sektörün inovatif markalarından Royal Halı, yepyeni
bir koleksiyona daha imza attı. Tamamen yerli ve
milli ürün perspektifi ile başlayan proje, sektörünün
önde gelen duayen firmalarından Bossa ile ortaklaşa
geliştirildi. %100 yerli ve GDO ‘suz pamuk ipliği ile
üretilen Royal Denim koleksiyonu sektöründe bir ilk
olma özelliğini taşıyor. Yerli ve Milli olarak üretilen
Royal Denim koleksiyonuna ilişkin açıklama yapan
Royal Halı A.Ş Genel Müdürü Tansel Tula şunları söyledi;
National collection;
Denim, from Royal Halı
The collections of Royal, Pierre Cardin and Atlas
Halı brands, which are the pioneers of the sector,
are in high demand from domestic and abroad.
Royal Halı continues its production at full capacity
in order to meet this demand in the best way. Finally,
the brand, which started a new project under the
name of Royal Halı with a completely domestic and
national product perspective, developed this project
jointly with BOSSA, one of the leading companies in
its sector. The Royal Denim collection, produced with
100% domestic and non-GMO cotton yarn, is a first in
the industry.
Tansel Tula, General Manager of Royal Halı A.Ş,
making a statement about the Royal Denim collection,
produced locally and nationally, said: “When we look
at the carpet industry, we see that 85% to 100% of
imported raw materials are used in machine-made
carpets. With the pandemic, it has been understood
that our country’s ability to produce industrial products
with domestic and national inputs is extremely
vital both in terms of economy and supply risks. With
this point of view, we started a brand new and extraordinary
project jointly with BOSSA. By using 100%
domestic and non-GMO-free cotton yarn provided
by BOSSA, exclusive to this project, we made a local
and national Royal Denim collection with a rebellious
spirit. The Royal Denim collection, taking its design
concept from the rebellious jean spirit and inspired by
the textures of jeans in its patterns offers naturalness
and elegance together. Royal Denim collection, which
will change the atmosphere of the spaces with its
unique style, can be used easily in homes and offices.
Denim patterns, which can be combined perfectly
with leather furniture and metal accessories, are
also very assertive in complementing the decoration
in interior architecture areas. In addition to the style
and modern appearance, denim carpets provide the
opportunity to add vintage air to the spaces over time
with regional bleaching such as effective aging depending
on the traffic of use.”
Safe production certificate
Tula, underlining that they recently received the Covid-19
“Safe Production Certificate” from the Turkish
Standards Institute, said: “We had prepared for these
pandemic effect, and completed our raw material
our employees. We started our innovations about 6
We are currently receiving a lot of orders from
imm cologne:
“Fuarımızı
yapacağız!”
Koelnmesse, fiziksel ticaret
Yeni imm cologne @home platformunun piyasaya sürülmesiyle,
Çok saygın konuşma forumu The Stage (Sahne) dahil
deneyimleyebilecek.
Katılımcılar doğrudan ek temaslardan ve daha geniş
erişimden yararlanacak
Standart web semineri ve video konferans sistemlerinden
farklı olarak, imm cologne @home, katılımcılara
içerik akışı seçeneğinden fazlasını sunacak - ayrıca
müşterilerle doğrudan bire bir görüşmeler başlatabilecekler.
imm cologne @home böylece gerçek ağ fırsatları,
doğrudan diyaloglar ve gerçek zamanlı çözümler sunacak
- herhangi bir katılımcı için belirleyici bir avantaj.
imm cologne – “We make it happen.”
“We make it happen” is the idea that is currently
guiding the whole imm cologne team. As a message
to imm cologne exhibitors and visitors, it underscores
Koelnmesse’s firm commitment to the industry
event and signals that imm cologne will be ready to
welcome visitors on 18 January 2021. To increase the
event’s reach further, the trade fair organisers in Cologne
are working to extend it into the digital sphere
with the new imm cologne @home platform.
“We at Koelnmesse believe firmly that everything is
possible with our hygiene and safety concept #B-SA-
FE4business and a positive attitude,” explains Matthias
Pollmann, Vice President Trade Fair Management
at Koelnmesse. “This progressive attitude is one that
many national and international exhibitors and visitors
share with us.
They are looking forward to networking at the emotional
high point of the year for the industry – even if it
is clear to everyone that many things will be different
next year,” he adds.
Digital formats will ensure maximum reach
The second key challenge facing the team led by Matthias
Pollmann and Claire Steinbrück is reaching those
visitors who are unable to or do not want to travel to
Cologne due to the pandemic. “By extending the trade
fair into the digital sphere, we have the best opportunities
to increase our reach. Digital reach will be used
as a new success criterion for all our trade fairs going
forward. It will no longer simply be about the numbers
of exhibitors and visitors and where our visitors
come from – we want to be measured in terms of our
digital reach as well,” says Matthias Pollmann, as he
explains the future strategy for imm cologne. “Our
Koelnmesse affirms the return to physical trade fairs with safe conditions.
Digital extension of the trade event to deliver maximum reach
goal is to show how many contacts our exhibitors can
generate globally in addition to the purely physical visitors,”
adds Claire Steinbrück. “gamescom event was
something like our future lab for reaching consumers,
and DMEXCO, which was recently hosted, have been
our blueprint for trade events. Based on our experiences
with these two trade fairs, we drew up a tailored
digital strategy for imm cologne,” says the trade fair
management team, sketching out imm cologne’s evolution
into a hybrid format.
Ready for launch: imm cologne @home is in beta
With the launch of the new imm cologne @home platform,
the Interior Business Event is doing more than
simply expanding business opportunities for its exhibitors.
It will also reach a broad spectrum of visitors,
creating a diverse range of further possibilities for
interaction. The platform will be a forum for virtual
exchanges between industry peers, for networking
with relevant contacts and elevating business to the
next level. In addition to a variety of live-streamed
digital stages – including the highly respected talks
forum The Stage – there will be open and thematically
curated video chats in the virtual cafe, and online
trade fair visitors will be able to experience exclusive
new launches by imm cologne exhibitors in private
showrooms.
Exhibitors to benefit directly from additional
contacts and broader reach
Unlike standard webinar and video conferencing
systems, imm cologne @home will offer exhibitors
more than just the option to stream content – they will
also be able to start one-to-one conversations with
customers directly. imm cologne @home will thereby
offer real networking opportunities, direct dialogues
and real-time solutions – a decisive advantage for any
exhibitor.
Her yıl, yarısından çoğu Almanya dışında
yönelik düzenlenen fuarlarımızda 3000’in üzerinde
Türk firması ürün ve hizmetlerini sergileme, yeni
iş bağlantıları kurma fırsatı buldular. Türkiye’de de
başta Automechanika Istanbul ve Motobike Istanbul
olmak üzere, geçen 20 yılda onlarca başarılı organizasyona
imza atmış olmanın haklı gururunu yaşıyoruz.
Ancak bizleri asıl mutlu eden, firmalarımızın 20
yılda kaydettiği büyüme ve Messe Frankfurt İstanbul
ailesi olarak ülkece ulaştığımız ihracat hacmine sağladığımız
katkıdır.
Heimtextil, Ambiente ve Automechanika gibi sektörlerinde
dünyanın en büyük fuarlarını organize
ediyorsunuz.
sonunda ister aydınlatma, ister otomotiv, ister tekstil
işi yapın üretici de, tüketici de insan. İnsan sosyal bir
varlık olarak her zaman yüz yüze görüşmeyi tercih
eder.
devam edecektir.
Messe Frankfurt olarak pandemiden sonra düzenlediğimiz
ve önümüzdeki dönemde düzenleyeceğimiz tüm
organizasyonlarda koridor genişliklerinin ve minimum
stant alanlarının artırılması, koridorlarda tek/çift yön
trafik uygulamaları, yeme-içme alanlarındaki düzenlemeler
ve düzenli sağlık kontrolleri ile temelinde
sosyal mesafeyi korumaya yönelik önlemler alıyoruz.
Denizli Sanayi Odası’nın organize edeceği, ev tekstili
sektöründen uluslararası ziyaretçileri firmalarımızla
buluşturacak ‘Virtual Hometex Turkey 2020’ dijital
etkinliği için platform altyapısı ve tüm dünyada
100.000’in üzerinde firma yetkilisine yönelik uluslararası
pazarlama hizmeti sunacağız. Yakın gelecekte
diğer ihracatçı birliklerimizle de farklı sektörlerde
benzer dijital projeler üzerinde çalışmalarımız
olacaktır.
Yeni dönem için potansiyel katılımcı ve ziyaretçilere
tavsiyeleriniz nelerdir?
Messe Frankfurt Istanbul
pushes Turkish exports up!
As an important part of 780-year-old Messe Frankfurt, the leader and the
legendary establishment of event organizing industry in the world, Messe
Frankfurt Istanbul has been celebrating its 20th anniversary.
recommendations for the exhibitors and visitors. He
offered more in the talk.
Would you start with furnishing us with the information
about the foreign structure of Messe Frankfurt,
a legendary fair organizing company which celebrates
its almost 800th anniversary, in general and
about the position of Messe Istanbul in particular?
Messe Frankfurt is the largest fair, congress and
event organizer of the world in its field. The company
has been serving to 190 countries with its 30 affiliated
companies employing 2,600 people. Our company,
which organizes over 150 fairs of which more than
half are in Germany, is a public establishment owned
60% by Frankfurt Municipality and 40% by Hessen
State. Messe Frankfurt Istanbul International Fair Organization
Ltd. was established in the year 2000. The
main idea behind establishing a company in Turkey
was to determine the Turkish market and to adopt the
manufacturing areas. Our company has been striding
to lead Turkish exporters to new markets. It gives us
a special pride to see that the companies which we
serve have been influential players in international
markets and to contribute to the export volume of our
country.
With almost 800-year experience, Messe Frankfurt
is the global leader in the fair organizing industry.
Its portfolio of over 100 fairs in around 30 countries
offers the exhibitors the opportunity to increase their
international trade volume and discover the world’s
most dynamic markets. The pandemic has caused a
lot of cancellations or postponements in the schedules
of the company.
Representing Messe Frankfurt fairs in Turkey, Messe
Frankfurt Istanbul has been successfully turning its
20th year. We conducted an exclusive interview with
Tayfun Yardım, general manager of Messe Frankfurt
Istanbul, to ask the effects of the pandemic, the
prescription to the trade disturbances of the disease,
the present situation of the industry, suggestions and
Can you tell us the main headlines of the milestones
of 20 years of Messe Frankfurt Istanbul?
More than 3000 Turkish companies had the opportunity
to exhibit their products and services and establish
new business connections in our fairs organized
for different sectors in 40 cities around the world for
20 years. We are proud to have successfully organized
dozens of successful organizations notably Automechanika
Istanbul and Motobike Turkey, during last 20
years. However, what makes us happy as the Messe
Frankfurt Istanbul family is the growth of our companies
in 20 years and the contribution we have made to
the export volume our country has reached.
You organize the world’s largest fairs in their
sectors such as Heimtextil, Ambiente and Automechanika.
Are there other fairs in which Turkey is
in the first-three national exhibitors? Does Messe
Frankfurt Istanbul Turkey assume a role for Messe
78
DECOR • September - October 2020
Frankfurt events or operations outside Turkey or
its only mission is about the participation of Turkish
companies in Frankfurt fairs and organizations held
in Turkey such as Automechanika Istanbul?
Not only in Frankfurt but in many of our international
fairs, our companies clearly reflect the production
potential of our country with the increasing participation
rate every year. Over 300 companies participated
in Heimtextil, the most leading home textile
fair of the world, this year and the largest exhibition
space belonged to us. At Texworld Paris, one of our
clothing fabric fairs, we are the second country with
the highest number of exhibitors after China, with the
interest shown by our exhibitors to the fair for many
years. Leading automotive industry fair Automechanika,
the ISH trade fair for our construction and energy
sectors, and many more in our fair Light + Building,
Turkey is among the countries with the greatest participation.
As Messe Frankfurt Istanbul, we also intend
to ensure the continuity of this development. Not only
in Istanbul Motobike and Automechanika Istanbul
which we organize in Turkey, no matter where in the
world, we are aiming minimum one Turkish exhibitor
to take place in all of our fairs.
During the pandemic, the fair industry was one of
the most affected industries. What do you expect
during and after the normalization process?
Recently, we often hear the expressions of “normalization”
and “new normal”. From the beginning of
2020, the global coronavirus pandemic is challenging
the event industry, as there are numerous reasons
that have forced humanity to change their daily lives
and living conditions throughout its nearly 200,000-
year history. But as you may understand, in the 780-
year period many pandemics, wars, economic and
political crises have passed. During this period, both
in Turkey and around the world it will be the beginning
of a new era and although the expectations as an exhibition
area will undergo a change in perception; tough
periods such as a pandemic actually accelerate or
slow down ongoing processes. Issues such as digitalization
and security were already on our agenda, the
pandemic accelerates the process only at this point.
At the end of the day, whether it is lighting, automotive
or textile, both the manufacturer and the consumer
are human. As a social being, human always prefers
to meet face to face. In cases where physical meeting
is restricted or there is no feasibility, digital platforms
are of course a very good opportunity offered by technology.
However, as long as humanity remains on the
stage of history, and as Messe Frankfurt’s platforms
have made possible for 780 years, the most important
success factor of the trade fair industry will continue
to be face-to-face meetings. As Messe Frankfurt, we
take measures to maintain social distance on the basis
of increasing corridor widths and minimum stand
areas, one / two-way traffic practices in the corridors,
regulations in food and beverage areas and regular
health checks in all the organizations we organize
after the pandemic and will organize in the upcoming
period.
Will there be any new events Messe Frankfurt will
organize Istanbul in Turkey?
We welcome a lot of suggestions from the collaboration
of exporters’ unions and associations which we
cooperate in our foreign fairs about organizing a new
event in Turkey. Of course, we continue our evaluations
for a fair organization for the right sectors at the
right time. We will provide platform infrastructure for
the Virtual Hometex Turkey 2020 digital event, which
will be organized by Denizli Exporters Association and
Denizli Chamber of Industry between 18-20 November
2020, and bring international visitors from the home
textile industry together with our companies, and we
will provide international marketing services for more
than 100,000 company officials all over the world. In
the near future, we will work on similar digital projects
in different sectors with our other export associations.
What are your recommendations to prospective
exhibitors and visitors for the new term?
We are in a period where pandemic and international
travel restrictions continue. In this process,
postponing or canceling international trade fairs for
future dates has generated a need for new product
arrangements and new business connections for
both manufacturers and purchasers. Unless trade
fairs are organized, manufacturers cannot find
the opportunity to present their new products and
services to their potential customers and purchasing
professionals cannot find the chance to meet
new suppliers that will meet the demand in their
markets. When the international trade fairs reopen,
the effect of the pandemic will continue, and it will
take time for the number of exhibitors and visitors
to reach the previous level. However, our advice to
our companies is that they take all personal health
