CHURCH NEWS

Holy Trinity & St Margaret's

Well at the time of writing this our churches are

closed for corporate worship but I hope that at

the time of reading they will be open again.

Either way Holy Trinity and St Margaret’s are

open each day (around 9am to 2pm) for private

prayer and we are posting an audio ‘on line’

service on our website each week (www.

holytrinityandstmargarets.co.uk).

Over the next couple of weeks we will be

videoing a Taizé service, a Christingle service

and a Crib service. These services will appear

on our website. The service of Taizé chant and

readings will go up as soon as it is ready and the

Christingle will appear on the Sunday before

Christmas (the 20th). Our Crib service will be

the one from Holy Trinity where we tell the

Village Voice December 2020/January 2021

story of that first Christmas as, in addition to the

usual figures, a number of cuddly toys also

make it to the manger. This will be posted for

4pm on Christmas Eve so put the time in your

diary to settle down in front of the computer

screen with the children. We will also post our

Carols for All and a service of Lessons And

Carols in the run up to Christmas.

I have been very conscious through the last 6

months that Holy Trinity Church has been on its

spot for over 800 years now and has seen some

extraordinary events, both for good and bad

over those years. The building itself has seen

times when it has been full of people and times

when it has been dilapidated. But it is still here

as a reminder of things more permanent and

things more spiritual. Let the building remind

you, as is its intention, of the Lord’s presence

and providence in these difficult times.

It will be a strange Christmas this year (it will

be for us in the Vicarage) but the message of

Christmas is one of hope, light and salvation. I

think the words of the last verse of ‘Away in a

manger’ are a good prayer for us throughout the

year...

Be near me Lord Jesus

I ask thee to stay

Close by me for ever

And love me, I pray

Bless all the dear children

In Thy tender care,

And fit us for heaven

To live with Thee there.

May you know that you are a child of God in

His tender care this Christmas time. Blessings,
