SPORTSNEWS ROUND UPP&TG Lawn Tennis ClubI am so happy to beable to write that weshould finish the yearwith the courts open…but in reality we haveall had to get used toplanning short termthis year haven’t we?!Looking back on2020, I really feel wehave been very lucky to have such a wonderfulfacility as the tennis club in our village.Once the first lockdown finished we provideda much needed safe space for members to getout into the fresh air and enjoy some sociallydistanced exercise. It has been a wonderfulspace to catch up with friends old and new.With more people working from home this yearwe have welcomed many more new members.We are currently awaiting the contractors tore-surface the 4th court to the same Tiger Turfas the main 3 courts which should be donebefore the New Year. Since the secondlockdown finished we are trying to completeour internal club tournaments, and the WinterVets leagues will pick up again with a fewmatches to reschedule. During the ChristmasBreak we will run a few fun competitions.The PTG Tennis Club wish all VV readers avery happy holidays, and a healthy New Year.NEW MEMBERS – We are still running thereduced annual membership for just £69 peradult and junior membership starting from£17.25. Let’sall hope that we can spend time with friends andfamily in safety once again.Looking back over the past 10 months, wewere fortunate that from mid-July, we were ableto play cricket in relatively normality. Yes therewere hand-sanitisation breaks, no changingrooms and no communal teas so just playing atwas a considerable victory in the circumstances!The Cricket Club has entered its annual stateof hibernation since those long Summer days.The sight-screens have been returned to theirwinter moorings at the bottom of the field, thepitch-covers have been dismantled and thesquare itself has been ‘put the bed’ ahead of itsreawakening in the Spring of 2021. What nextseason has in store, nobody knows. But if asimilar pattern emerges again next year, theadvent of warmer weather and embeddedsocial-distancing habits will hopefully mean thatcricket can take place for most of the season.Here at P&TGCC, we are proud to see ahealthy mix of players of all ages representingour League teams and we will continue to workhard with our 80-strong Colts section in thehope that they will graduate into the Leagueteams when the opportunity arises. We arealways on the lookout for new players. If youare new to the villages or perhaps used to playcricket and looking for an opportunity to do soagain, we would be delighted to hear from you.Off the field, the Club is in a decent financialposition and the August Bank Holiday 6-a-sidetournament enabled us to raise funds for Charitytoo. We are lucky to have so many keenvolunteers that make all this possible. Pleasekeep an eye out for further events taking placein 2021 as and when the pandemic allows, andhelp the Club continue to make its contributionto the community-life of our villages.
