IN MEMORYPhilip Page August 1937 to October2020Village Voice December 2020/January 2021He was also a season ticket holder at hisbeloved Wycombe Wanderers for many seasons.Philip was a devoted father and grandfather, afamily man, always supporting his two sonsMatthew and Russell with their sportingexploits, mainly cricket, football and badminton.Happily married to Jean for 58 years, he spentthe last four years of his life in Alde House,Penn, due to failing health.Jean, Russell and Matthew still live in thevillage with 4 of Phil’s siblings living locallyalongside various nieces and nephews.Philip, our father, sadly passed away on 29thOctober 2020, aged 83. Russell and Matthew PageBorn Philip Page, the 6th of 9 children, in ahouse on Tylers Green common on 15th August1937 the family moved to Hazlemere soon after.Philip went to school in Hazlemere, and livedin the local area, mainly Tylers Green and Penn,for all of his life.He worked as a driving instructor for 35years. After hanging up his 'driver underinstruction' plates, he moved to a couple ofdifferent jobs and then in 1997 started workingat Amersham Hospital where after 16 years hefinally retired in 2013.Philip had a long association with the church,he was a choirboy at Hazlemere, then a regularchurchgoer at Penn Church for many years.He was an active sportsman, playing cricketand football for Penn & Tylers Green as ayoung man.He was one of the founder members ofPennants Badminton Club circa 1970, andplayed competitively until the early 1990’s, butremained a social player until 2004 when hesuffered his second achilles tendon injury.www.pennandtylersgreen.org.ukDear VV,I wanted to write to thank everyone whosupported 'Operation Christmas child', whichI wrote about in the last edition of VVA big THANK YOU to both churches and thecommunity. We collected 79 boxes, which isamazing. I thought VV readers might like to seesome pictures of the beautifully wrappedshoeboxes. 79 children will be thrilled to getthese lovely boxesWe were a bit worried that given the currentcovid situation, this might impact on thenumber of boxes we would receive ( we usuallycollect about 85 between the two churches)As ever, the community rose to thechallenge, and 79 boxes is brilliant.Thank you and best wishes,Emma Byrne79 BOXES!19
