Out of school and recreation, is a term that<br />
has been widely adopted in New Zealand<br />
to describe services that provide regular<br />
care for school-age children (5-13) outside<br />
of school hours. <strong>Selwyn</strong> Kids is more<br />
than a child-minding service by providing<br />
leisure and recreation activities that not<br />
only enrich that child but also enrich<br />
family life and enhance learning done at<br />
school. At <strong>Selwyn</strong> Kids, we pride ourselves<br />
in providing quality before and after school<br />
care for the children in our care. Our staff<br />
are dedicated to providing a nurturing<br />
environment; enabling our children to feel<br />
safe, have fun and grow with their peers.<br />
At <strong>Selwyn</strong> Kids, we provide our families<br />
with support for over the school holiday<br />
period. Our programme is meticulously<br />
planned and delivered by talented and<br />
responsible teachers, whose priority is the<br />
wellbeing of the children and providing a<br />
fun environment with engaging activities.<br />
Our activities are varied to appeal to a wide<br />
range of students, age groups, ethnicities,<br />
etc. Our activities include (but are not<br />
limited to), various crafts and art, sport,<br />
trips, baking.<br />
<strong>Selwyn</strong> kids OSCAR is located within<br />
Rolleston.<br />
<strong>Selwyn</strong> kids’ educators provide homebased<br />
care and education in their own<br />
homes for children from birth to five/<br />
six years. Each educator has only four<br />
children in their care enabling your child<br />
to form secure relationships and get<br />
individual attention. Homebased care is<br />
care that is in an educator’s own home.<br />
It offers an amazing low ratio home-like<br />
environment, which is great for babies,<br />
toddlers and young children. It provides<br />
different options for parents including<br />
more settled children, ability to follow<br />
individual routines including sleep and<br />
eating, less sickness and more flexible<br />
hours for parents. All educators are<br />
supported by a <strong>Selwyn</strong> Kids visiting<br />
teacher, who is qualified and registered<br />
early childhood teacher.<br />

choice of either Discovery or the Explorers<br />
centres catering for children aged 2 to<br />
6. <strong>Selwyn</strong> Kids has an amazing outside<br />
environment that is back to nature and<br />
exploration.<br />
Discovery is specifically designed for<br />
children aged 2 to 3.5 and blends both a<br />
kindergarten and a home-like environment<br />
especially for children making those steps<br />
in kindergarten. Discovery gives children a<br />
settled and well-constructed place where<br />
they can feel valued and have a real sense<br />
of belonging.<br />
Explorers cater for children aged 3.5 to<br />
5/6 and give an opportunity to focus on<br />
social competencies, communication and<br />
negotiation skills, making good choices<br />
and getting the children comfortable with<br />
group learning and for them to express<br />
themselves in positive ways.<br />
