Under the Spotlight
Some may say that the orthodontic
community has been slow in embracing
Invisalign as a legitimate treatment option
as many orthodontists are still reluctant
to treat complex cases with Invisalign.
TIO group actually believes that not only
is Invisalign a possible treatment option in
the majority of cases but in many instances,
it is preferable to traditional metal braces.
“The TIO community has turned
itself, through community involvement
and engagement, into a leading voice
for specialist orthodontist and dental
innovation. Now with close to 100 members
worldwide and still rapidly growing, we
seem to attract people who not only
want to expand their practices but also
want to be part of shaping the future of
orthodontics,” stated Dr. Duncan.
Years of experience using Invisalign
Dr. Duncan has been a practicing
orthodontist for over 25 years with a special
interest in aligner treatment and completes
about 500 Invisalign cases a year. Hence,
it is no surprise that he is one of the rst
Invisalign providers in Australia to be honoured
with a Black Diamond Provider Certication
(more than 400 patients) from Invisalign
in 2015. This only shows his commitment
and clinical experience with Invisalign
treatment.
He has preferred Invisalign since
2000, when he started using the system,
because of the company’s long history and
commitment in research and development
of aligner treatments.
“As professionals, we have a lot to be
grateful for with Align Technology. There
are some major companies moving into
the space and I expect 2018 will be a big
year for orthodontists interested in aligner
treatments. I am excited for new and
dierent products with new price points.
There will be fun times ahead.”

Integrating technology into
the practice
A s i d e f r o m h i s i n t e r e s t i n e d u c a t i o n ,
Dr. Duncan believes that digitalisation
is the way of the future in dentistry. His
practice has been in the digital space for
close to 20 years by utilising digital photos,
digital radiographs, digital communication,
digital appliances (like Invisalign and
Insignia), 3D printing, digital orthodontic
s e t - u p s , i n - h o u s e a l i g n e r f a b r i c a t i o n ,

monitoring, marketing through social media
and digital advertising.
“TIO is almost entirely digital, through
educational portals, community forums and
in fact our expertise is in the entire digital
marketing space,” he added.
