enhances stain removal
The innovative external ribbing on the Mighty Mini 90 cup enhances
cleaning and polishing. The internal design reduces splattering
signicantly. The “splatter” problem is signicant for hygienists;
even a small amount of inadvertent spray on a uniform makes it
unt when seeing additional patients. The inconvenience and cost
of storing multiple uniforms at the practice can be prohibited. Thus,
it is highly benecial to minimise or altogether eliminate prophy cup
splattering. The shape of the Mighty Mini 90 is designed to contain
the prophylaxis paste instead of allowing it to escape at the cup
edges, even when the teeth are moist with saliva. The counterclockwise
rotation of the cup also helps to eliminate splatter.
The overall eect of the innovations listed above is that the
process of stain removal is easier and more efficient for the
hygienist hence less time spent on the procedure and makes it
less demanding. Stain removal is enhanced by the internal ridges
on the Mighty Mini 90 Prophy Cup such that no additional force or
pressure on the handpiece is required.
Safer to use
The Mighty Mini 90 Disposable Prophy Angle is 100% latex free as
is the new cup material. This is benecial for many dental team
members and patients who are sensitive or allergic to latex,
sometimes unknowingly. It is easier and safer for practices to simply
eliminate latex from all clinical procedures rather than risking an
adverse reaction.
Most prophy angles are disposable; this is a good idea when
they are virtually impossible to disinfect externally and internally.
Some are individually pre-packaged to prevent cross-contamination
when one is removed from the box but only Mighty Mini 90 is
sterile (Fig. 5). It is interesting that dentists and hygienists who
would never break the chain of infection control with any of their
other equipment or materials do not think twice about polishing
teeth with a non-sterile disposable prophy angle. Gamma radiation
sterilisation removes the risks associated with the utilisation of a
non-sterile prophy angle, and eliminates this potential hazard from
the practice.
Since every practice uses large numbers of disposable prophy
angles (50 or more per week for an average hygienist), cost
is, and should be, a concern. And it
would be normal for all the advantages
listed above to command a premium
price tag. Fortunately, this is not a
dicult decision for the dentist (or the
individual responsible for ordering) to
make; the Mighty Mini 90 Disposable
