Most progressive
dental practices
today are recallbased.
This
means that
they depend on their hygiene
department for a significant
portion of their incomes. It stands
to reason that a more ecient and
more eective hygiene program
will have a major positive impact
on practices. Furthermore, in a mature practice, patients typically
spend much more time with the hygienist than the dentist, receiving
routine re-care and maintenance treatment. It is essential that the
patient be completely comfortable at all stages of the hygiene
procedure. This means as little time as possible in the dental chair,
rapid and eective cleansing and polishing of the teeth, and as little
vibration and noise as possible.
The hygienist’s most time-consuming tasks include scaling and
prophylaxis. The most common operator complaints about tooth
polishing include limited clinical access, visibility, hand fatigue due
to vibration, poor ergonomics and prophylaxis paste spatter.
The problem is further complicated by the fact that purchase
decisions for hygiene products are often made by the dentist or
a designated sta member, neither of whom actually uses these
products, or has great familiarity with them. Oftentimes, purchase
decisions are often made on price alone, without thinking about
eciency, eectiveness and comfort. “Purchasing momentum”,
the re-ordering of products simply because they were previously
stocked, without any consideration for upgraded or improved
alternatives, is also a major limitation on practice growth and
development.
Easier, faster and better polishing
The Mighty Mini 90 Disposable Prophy Angle is considered to be an
interchangeable consumable. Each hygienist uses at least one for
every patient. The time of use is several minutes or until all tooth
surfaces in the mouth are thoroughly cleaned. However, recent
innovations and developments have created a clear distinction
between “typical” prophy angles and those that have been
specically designed to make tooth polishing better, faster, and
easier.
(PacDent International Inc.) is the smallest and most powerful
compact prophy angle available to the dental profession in the
market. PacDent International Inc. canvassed dental professionals
to better address problems and drawbacks with existing products.
The result is an ecient and user-friendly second generation prophy
angle that denes a new standard.
Innovative patented bevelled gear design
to operate smoothly and quietly,
with the necessary torque for
optimal polishing (Fig. 1). It runs
smoothly without over-heating.
The direction-changing gear does
not slip which provides predictable
but limited rotational power to
the cup. Assumingly, the hygienist
inadvertently apply too much
pressure to the tooth, the Mighty
Mini 90 Disposable Prophy Angle
simply stalls without damaging the dental surfaces or causing
discomfort for the patient. The quiet, bevelled gear precision design
not only reduces
the operational
noise levels, but
also diminishes the
vibration felt by both
the operator and the
patient, making the
entire prophylaxis
procedure less
intrusive.
Ergonomic and slimmest profile for better vision, easier
handling and functional reach
In order to improve visibility inside the oral cavity, the Mighty Mini 90
oers the slimmest head prole available (Fig. 2). Hygienists do not
need to reposition their heads or assume non-ergonomic postures
because the prophy angle is small enough to see around clearly. The
ergonomic prole of the prophy angle makes handling comfortable
and less tiring which is truly appreciated at the end of a long day. In
addition to preventing fatigue, the innovative design reduces hand
and arm micro-traumas (Fig. 3).
Fig. 2 Fig. 3
The business head of the Mighty Mini 90 is 20% smaller and
shorter than previous generation prophy angles for better access
to tight posterior areas such as the buccal areas of maxillary
molars and the lingual areas of mandibular molars (Fig. 4). The
25% slimmer neck of the cup further enhances direct visibility.
The smaller head size and increased visibility are essential for
polishing children and patients with a limited opening of the jaw.
