Head of Junior School Message
AshColl Values –Term OneFocus on Pride
The start ofour year at College has given us
the opportunity toinform our new staff and
students (and remind our returning staff and
students) about the AshColl Way. In everything
we do at College, we strivetoachieve our values
of Quality, Pride and Respect. Ourfocus forTerm
One is on the value of Pride and, inparticular,we
willbeworking with students to ensurethey are
showing this by wearing our College uniform
correctly andattending everyclass, every day, on time.
Allstudents have taken partinassemblieswherethe uniformguidelines
have been explained and reminders have been given in Ako time.
Students arerequiredtowear their uniformcorrectly from thetime they
leave home inthe morning until they return after College. There are
plenty of options within the uniform toallow for changeable weather
conditions andalso flexibilityfor personal preference.
We appreciate the support from parents and caregivers to ensure that
our young people do wear their uniform with pride, and we will make
contact with home ifthis is not thecase. In particular, wedonot allow
hoodies or sneakers to be worn with the uniformand only College hats
maybeworn.
StudentAchievement
Over the past ten years, wehave collected student achievement data
which categorically shows the link between attendance and academic
success. Wewill be working hardwith studentsand parents/caregivers
to maintain high levels of attendanceacross the College.
Remember that our College day begins at8:45am on Monday and
Friday, so studentsneed to be at College and heading to their classes by
8:40am. On Tuesday, Wednesdayand Thursday, classes begin at 9:00am,
so students need to be at College and on their way toclass by 8:55am
at the latest.
Relationship Between School and Home –Ako Interviews
At College we value the relationship between school and home in
order tosupport our young people to succeed. The Ako teacher is
instrumental in this role and weencourage parents and caregivers to
make contact with the Ako teacher of their child with any questions or
concerns.
At two points during the year, weclose the College for instruction and
ask all students and parents/caregivers to come in for Ako interviews.
This three-way discussion and information-sharing between student,
parent/caregiver and Ako teacher is crucial to ensure the student’s
needs arebeingmet inall aspects of their College life.
The first Ako interviews will take place onThursday 04 March, as
advertised further through this newsletter, soplease put this into your
calendar now. Informationwill be emailed to parents/caregiversabout
making times for interviews. All students are expected toattend the
interviewsonthis day.
