MBW| LIFE LESSONS | BITTER-PILL Life Lessons We Often Learn Late Life as tough as it is will continually drag you down, no matter how hard you try. However, there are some key lessons that can entirely change how we look at life and help one gain positivity admist all the mayhem life may throw at us in our entrepreneurship journeys. BY TUMO MODIMOENG “Life is the survival of the fittest.” “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade out of it!” they say. I bet you have come across these life quotes, what are these lemons that they are talking about? Or what does it mean to be the fittest? Life is not fair, never will be and was never meant to be. It took me almost the entirety of my life to discover life’s most important lessons. How do you keep peace and positivity in a world full of atrocities? 1SUCCESS IS NOT AN ACCIDENT This is one of the bitterest pills to swallow. Contrary to popular belief, successful people worked hard to be where they are at. Whether it be in careers or business, there are so many pleasures that they denied themselves to get where they are. Unless you are born into a wealthy family, mind that your share of wealth can still diminish though if not managed well. Royalties also have to work hard to find favour amongst their people, that is where their success lies. And you are a result of your actions/decisions. Have you noticed that, whatever circumstance you experience, someone may have come across a similar situation? We do not have control over what life throws at us or even how others treat us. But we have control of how we respond to those situations. Whether you break down and give up on life or emerge stronger from those is entirely upon us. 2SORROUND YOURSELF WITH GREATNESS Your friends play an important role in your life, they can either build you up or tear you down. Some friends are no good, jealous and evil-hearted and your life is better off without those. Surround yourself with people who want the best for you, those that encourage you when you are down and look out for you. Those that embrace your achievements and also help you to grow into a better person. 3KNOW YOURSELF Being aware of your strengths and weaknesses and capabilities will It doesn’t matter who you are in life, it only matters who you want to become and the price you are willing to pay to get there. - Tom Bilyeu help you navigate life. What are the things that make you happy, those that make you angry? Knowing yourself is crucial and helps you to improve on your weaknesses and grow into a better person. You get to stay clear of characters and environments that will not do you well but harm. 4FIND YOUR PASSION “Passion is the feeling that you have that you’d probably do something for free and you can’t believe that someone pays you to do it!” Simon Sinek. What is that thing that fulfils you, that you have so much fun doing? Passion keeps you going even when things are tough, and many others would have given up. If you are passionate at something, you are more likely to succeed at it. That is why some people still persevere in extreme circumstances because of passion.. Passion will open doors for you, it may take time, but it eventually will. 5DO NOT COMMIT TO INEFFECTIVENESS “Lunacy is doing the same thing expecting different results!” T.D Jakes. If you can’t control a situation, either change yourself or how you relate to that thing. There’s no use doing the same thing over and over that doesn’t bear fruits. There comes a time in life when one should notice that no matter how much they try, they cannot change a situation. 6LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES No one is perfect, right? Do not let pride get the best of you and lead you astray. We are all bound to mess up at some point. Own up to your mistakes and use them as a stepping tool for you to better yourself in life. How will you learn from your mistakes if you do not own up to them? 7FORGIVE YOURSELF Sometimes we make catastrophic mistakes that change our lives for the worst. We go to prison, lose loved ones and get painful consequences that make our lives take a wrong turn. Our lives stop for quite some time because of those, and we can’t believe how careless we have been. But, life won’t wait for you to recollect yourself, the clock never stops ticking. So it’s crucial to accept that we messed up and own to our mistakes, ask for forgiveness where due and set yourself free. Why would you expect someone to forgive you when you can’t forgive yourself?
