MBW| CREATIVE ARTS | PAINTING OF THE MONTH
TTimothy Dike, a full-time visual artist
from Shakawe, whose trademark Big
Tim Arts, worked with, Kept Promise, a
Non-Governmental Organization which
advocates against GBV.
As passion leads him into advocacy for
GBV, while stroking his brush on canvas
to create a portrait that is named, ‘I
Can’t Hide My Face Anymore’, he gets
into another realm of the creative and
becomes utterly poetic. The painting
interprets into poetry which reads:
“I can’t hide my face anymore, but time
tells in the opposite,
I have tried to find my path, but eyes have denied me the possible.
I am in rains and shadows of the dreamland, in solitude
As though crime I’d have committed.
My grandmother told me to behold and strong
And she’d stroll.
My hands would pray for my mercy,
And the colours of my heart and emotions would blame my shadows
gladly.
I am in my womb, where life would emerge from the ashes
Of dust and soils, where trees and birds had patches
Of history and moments of yesterday.
My heart is heavy
My past is hectic
My future is like a dove in clouds of the dark clouds,
A spark that brightens a little behind the dark.
And my head is heavy. My nerves are loosened
My womb is still fertile, I’d smile again. I’ll open my eyes
When I reach the crossroads of the loose ends.
I can’t hide my face anymore”
