Mountain bikers out for sixhour race<br />
Mountainbike <strong>Ashburton</strong> will<br />
host the McDonalds <strong>Ashburton</strong><br />
Six Hour Mountain Bike Race<br />
on Sunday, as part of the<br />
Wheels Week Plus programme.<br />
The annual event sees<br />
around 400 riders traditionally<br />
turn out to take part in the<br />
annual six hour event along the<br />
river trail loop on the western<br />
side of <strong>Ashburton</strong>.<br />
Club members have astrong<br />
involvement with the race and<br />
riders of all ages are expected.<br />
The course is a10km offroad<br />
course that starts and finishes<br />
at the Allenton Rugby<br />
Clubrooms on Melrose Road.<br />
Riders can choose to ride<br />
solo, in teams or schools in the<br />
event.<br />
Registration is at the<br />
clubrooms on the day between<br />
8am and 9.30am, or online via<br />
the club’s website at www.<br />
mountainbikeashburton.co.nz<br />
Spot prizes will be<br />
announced on the day.<br />
BBQ and drinks will also be<br />
available for purchase.<br />
Best location for spectators is<br />
from the village on Melrose<br />
Road, at the new skills area on<br />
Dobson Street West, or under<br />
the railway bridge on the<br />
northwest side of the<br />
<strong>Ashburton</strong> Bridge.<br />
The race runs from 10am to<br />
4pm.<br />
