Emergency ReliefFund announcedfor<br />

Mid Canterbury residents<br />

People and families in Mid Canterbury<br />

experiencing financial hardship as a<br />

resultofthe recent floodevents cannow<br />

apply for funds tohelp with essential<br />

costs.<br />

<strong>Ashburton</strong> District Mayor Neil Brown has<br />

finalised the criteria for the Emergency<br />

Relief Fund which began accepting<br />

applicationsonTuesday, 8<strong>June</strong>. The fund<br />

is designed to assist with essential costs of<br />

daily lifenot covered by insuranceorother<br />

funds whereanimmediate need exists.<br />

The outpouring of support from<br />

communities all over the country inthe<br />

wake of the <strong>Ashburton</strong> floods has been<br />

incredible and the relief fund provides<br />

afurther avenue of support for those in<br />

need,Mayor Brown said.<br />

“The eligibility to apply is reasonably<br />

wide in the hopes those inreal need are<br />

not in any wayinhibitedfromgaining the<br />

support theyneed.<br />

“In the meantime, if thereisanimmediate<br />

financial need not covered by insurance<br />

or other forms of assistance, people are<br />

advised to apply as soon as theyare able,"<br />

he added.<br />

Welcoming Mural Artist Begins Painting<br />

Prolific mural artist Koryu Aoshima of<br />

Geraldine haslast weekbegun painting<br />

his colourful Welcoming Mural in the<br />

town centre.<br />

During the four-week mural installation<br />

and subject to weather conditions, the pay<br />

and display parking area in the Eastfield<br />

precinct will be affected.<br />

Carparks nearest the mural wall will<br />

be cordoned off while the Cass Street<br />

entrance nearest Armadillo's restaurant<br />

will be limited tooutwards traffic only.<br />

Users ofthe carpark will need touse the<br />

vehicle crossing at the rear of Work and<br />

Income New Zealand (WINZ) building to<br />

exit on to CassStreet.<br />

Nearby carparks in Eastfield opposite<br />

the MSA on Burnett Street have recently<br />

become available.<br />

Normal payand display parking fees and<br />

chargeswill apply.<br />

Once the mural is completed pay and<br />

display parking will resume as usual.<br />

The mural concept was chosen by<br />

residentsinapublicvote,whichfolloweda<br />

publicsubmissions process on deciding a<br />

theme.AWelcoming Mural panel oversaw<br />

the process.<br />

Koryu has worked with the Welcoming<br />

Mural panel and property owner to take<br />

intoaccount public feedback whicharose<br />

as aresult of the voting process, allowing<br />

the sizeofthe mural to be extendedacross<br />

the whole wall.<br />

Visitors are welcome to view the artist<br />

working and are advised to stay outside<br />

of the safetycordons. Atime lapse camera<br />

will also be in placetofilm the mural come<br />

to lifeover this time.<br />
