Ashburton Lions Club
President Roger Paterson
welcomed all to thechangeover
and partners’ night meeting. He
introduced12members of the
CivilDefence team from
Christchurch who arestayingin
Ashburton to assist with the
flood relief effort.
Their work includedwelfare
checks,foodparcels and water
which were dropped off to
thosewho neededit. This
included animal welfare
support. Rural Support
networks play avital role to
thosewho neededsupporton
farms. Fencing is oneofthe
biggest needs,along with silt
deposits.
Some families came very
closetohavingwater running
through their homes, others
were not so fortunate. Keeping
an eye on one’s neighbours is
important;often they won’t ask
for help.Itwas goodtohear
firsthand insights of the work
CivilDefence are doingto
assist in Mid Canterbury.
There was aresolutionfrom
By all accounts the course
has pulled up verywell after
the recent deluge, thanks again
to Ben and allthe gang.Ihave
saiditmany timesbefore,but
we are truly blessedtohave
suchapassionate greensteam
and it certainly shows outon
the course. Well done oneand
all.Onthat, we can all help
keepingthe courseingreat
condition.Carry abucketof
anypitch marks on the greens.
Even if you didn’t make them, if
you see one please repairit.
Thesooner it is repaired the
quicker it will recover.
On theplaying front. Jamie
Stoneledthe way in the
Champsround 3qualifierwith
asuperbnet 70. Great score off
thebackteesonachilly day.
Runner upwas Ken Clucas with
71 and Josh Coyle rounded out
thetop three with 72.
Thefinal of the Newton
trophy wascompleted
alongside the strokeround, and
withKen gettingsecondinthe
stroke it is no wonder that he
andLefty May were victorious
over Steve McCloy andStephen
Lee. Lefty was telling everyone
who wouldlisten,and anybody
else who was not listening, that
he single handedly prisedthe
trophy out of their opponents
hands, and that Ken wasonly
there to mark the card. Oh well,
hopefully next year this will
catapult them to winning a
proper trophy.
Iamtoldthatthe delayed
final of theWatsoncup willbe
finished off on Friday.
Next Saturday we have
qualifying for the Presidents
Trophy. Thisisastroke round
