Kristi Faulkner
Being a female barber in a male
dominated industry was initially
an enormous challenge, for Kristi,
but she shares, “30 years ago.
I started with my Wahl Peanut
and my Designer and have been
loyal ever since. To know I have
changed one person’s perspective
about using clippers,is what
makes me so excited. Diversity
in the industry is priceless and I
strive to leave a mark of seeing
no skin color... only texture.”
Joanne Rempel
Eufora Color Development
Manager and salon owner truly
mentors her stylists. Indeed,
many of the color looks Eufora
shares come from Joanne's
Salon - Colors Beauty and
Wellness - are rarely her own
work. She constantly encourages
and promotes her team members.
For many, Joanne is the ultimate
embodiment of Eufora's values
and mission.
Amy McManus
This spring Amy became a Wella
Professionals Brand Ambassador,
as a balayage specialist after
overcoming several career
challenges. “Discovering
balayage brought me back to life
and in love with doing hair again.
I was proud of my triumphs when
they’d happen and spent so much
time obsessing over my failures.
It was truly career changing
for me.” Now Amy hopes to
reignite this same joy in other
hairdressers around the world.
Sure, hairdressing is perhaps a trade first and also a business. But the culture behind it reaches so much further
into our past, into the very dawning of humanity and the act of preening, not only of ourselves but also of
those closest to us. Hairdressers are a caring lot, perhaps listeners above all - always working on taking their
consultation skills to the next level. And the best and brightest among them are destined to become teachers
and mentors as well, passing on important skills and tradition, having assimilated the very history and culture
of this trade and intent on instilling the same in generations to come.
Hayden Cassidy, Barber & Andis Global Educator summed it all up when she said, “I think the pandemic has
made us all realise not only the importance of the industry connections with one and other but also how much
we need each other for support and guidance, whatever level we are at. Around the world, I’ve heard of barbers
and stylists everywhere coming together to help each other get through these times and it's incredible to see.
It’s made me realize how incredibly grateful I am to be in this industry and I don't think anybody will ever take
what we do for granted again.”
This article was originally intended as a round-up of brief bios and profiles of some of the greatest artists in
the business... but we were only able to scratch the surface on the wisdom and life lessons they had to share
with us. So it looks like we will be doing a series of article on line on our newly designed website at
esteticamagazine.com, where readers will be able to find our more about those introduced here and others.
