We were a good enough side

Wembley. I believe we were a good

Everybody had a different view on it.
There were certain players like Terry
Fenwick and Gary Waddock that
probably revelled in the extra
preparation. However, I liked to do my
training, get away from the spotlight
and be at home so that I could take my
dog for a walk. But the FA Cup final is
what it is. I’d never done it before, and
I’ve never done it since so I can’t
compare it to anything else.
Glenn Hoddle gave Spurs the lead in
that first match before Fenwick
headed our equaliser after Hazell
nodded on your long throw from
the left…
We deserved it. The long throw was
something we worked on in training. I
have to say that Bob came up with a
back header that’s about as good as
you could possibly get. And Fen knew
he was going to score before he
headed it. Apart from that, it was a
very tight game with not a lot of
chances in it. We were playing
against tough people like Graham
Roberts, Steve Perryman and Paul
Miller who were around my spot on
the pitch. It was rough and
aggressive. They didn’t make it easy
for us. We tried to do the same thing
with their playmaker Hoddle by
denying him space on the ball. He
was a clever player. For us, if my
strike partner Clive Allen hadn’t got
injured early on then it might have
been a different story. Even so, it
