has had an outstanding season thus
far. On this one occasion, a mistake was
made, and we were ruthlessly punished.
What was most pleasing, however, was to
see Rob continue to be brave, continue
to take the football and indeed in the
second half I thought he delivered an
excellent display, combining composure in
possession with good physicality out of it.
Rob responded as you hope any top
young player will. All of our players will
make mistakes through the course of a
season, it’s the only way we ever learn.
Yet, they all to a man, display the strength
of character for being better for such
experiences. They’ve shown this in the
way they took a point from Reading having
been 3-1 down, or the manner they
reacted to being behind against Barnsley.
I believe our supporters recognise that
we’ll have some really good days and some
not so good ones. But there’s one attribute
that must never change and that’s the
commitment to the cause. As long as
our fans see the players show the hunger
and desire, the fight and the passion,
whenever they pull on the shirt, then I know
we’ll be backed every time. The points at
Middlesbrough when down to 10 men, the
fightback against Barnsley, the late goals
at the weekend and the last-gasp chance
that saw us almost take all three points,
are examples of the players showing such
character.
I’ve consistently mentioned the impact
of our supporters, both home and away.
The players are absolutely responding
to the fantastic support that was again
so evident at Bournemouth on Tuesday
evening. In return, the players are
giving everything every time they enter
the pitch and this ‘collaboration’, this
togetherness of our players and fans,
will have a huge impact throughout the
course of this season. Thank you as
always for such backing!
