MISSION TO
LONDON -
COACHES
FROM
TEDDINGTON
“A coach has been booked
to go to QPR stadium from
Teddington every Wednesday
and Friday in June. It will leave
at 6.30 pm from outside
Teddington Baptist Church
in Church Road. Anyone is
welcome to travel on the
coach - space permitting.
Fares will be £1.50 adult
return; 75p return for students
and senior citizens. Seats at
QPR are free, a block booking
has been made for everyone
travelling on the coach.”
A worshipper called Tony
Copple later wrote: “In
London in 1984, I began to
Luis Palau entrusted his
life to Christ, and later as
a young man decided to
give himself to helping
others on the same path
see advertisements for a
man called Luis Palau who
would be talking nightly at the
Queens Park Rangers stadium
near my Hammersmith office.
“By chance I saw a TV
programme about Palau
and discovered he was an
evangelist who was expecting
to preach to thousands during
a campaign at QPR. I resolved
to go, even though I’d never
been to such an event before.
“After work I drove to the
area of the stadium and
walked with the large crowd
converging on QPR. I entered
to the sound of a massed
choir and took my seat
opposite the stage, which had
been erected on the pitch,
facing half the stadium. There
were thousands there!
“The music was from The
Saltmine Band. Dave Pope
- their singer and leader -
was conducting the choir
and the audience in hymns
and Christian songs. The
atmosphere was strong.
“And then Luis Palau spoke
- the great Argentinean
evangelist based in Portland,
Oregon. What a voice! What
communication with his
audience! I’ve listened often,
because I have the tape of the
evening, and still his message
is fresh and powerful.”
