THE LINDAUER HÜTTE<br />
WHO IS MANFRED SPRUNG?<br />
Oh, that’s a long story. Originally I did<br />
an apprenticeship in catering and also<br />
worked in that sector. However, after<br />
starting a family and building a house in<br />
Schruns, we both left the catering business.<br />
I then worked for 14 summers in<br />
wild river and avalanche control and as a<br />
mountain guide. For 14 winters, I was a<br />
ski and snowboard instructor and blasting<br />
expert. I was also in mountain rescue for<br />
15 years. Then I spent six years as a product<br />
developer at Silvretta <strong>Montafon</strong>. And<br />
now, since October 2019, I’ve been the<br />
new host of the Lindauer Hütte.<br />
HOW AND WHY DID THIS HAPP<strong>EN</strong>?<br />
My wife and I have always dreamed of<br />
running a chalet. And all of a sudden<br />
the Lindauer Hütte came up, at just the<br />
right time. We seized the opportunity<br />
and are happy.<br />
HOW IS LIFE<br />
AT THE LINDAUER HÜTTE?<br />
Exhausting, but fulfilling. Actually, we<br />
work around the clock. We have a shelter<br />
chalet with 200 beds, a restaurant, an<br />
alpine garden in summer and toboggan<br />
rental in winter, plus all the work that goes<br />
on around the house. The job has so many<br />
aspects! From bookings and cancellations,<br />
service, food, rubbish collection, material<br />
transport to preparing the toboggan run –<br />
everything in fact.<br />
AND YET I HEAR<br />
HAPPINESS IN YOUR VOICE?<br />
Yes, definitely. The guests on the mountain<br />
are so relaxed and friendly, the scenery is<br />
breathtaking and when the regulars’ table<br />
in front of the tiled stove that we’ve reintroduced<br />
is full, all’s well with the world.
