YOU GREW UP IN DORNBIRN, STUDIED IN
INNSBRUCK AND HAVE SEEN THE WHOLE
WORLD AS A FREERIDER. WHAT BROUGHT
YOU TO THE MONTAFON?
It’s a region with a high quality of life, and for me
as a freerider, it offers easy access to perfect runs
and training opportunities. It’s also a good place
to discover the mountains with my children.
WHAT FORMATIVE EXPERIENCES DID YOU
TAKE WITH YOU FROM YOUR TIME AS A
FREERIDE PRO?
These would certainly be the many people I’ve
met, the landscapes I’ve seen and the memories
I’ve gathered with my skis on my travels from
Alaska to Chile and New Zealand. I’ve come to
know many different ski cultures and people with
different views. This also enables me to be open to
new things.
WHAT DOES YOUR PERFECT DAY OF SKIING
LOOK LIKE IN THE MONTAFON?
One or two motivated friends, a little fresh snow and
favourable avalanche conditions. We start in the
morning with two or three cool runs in the Silvretta
Montafon ski area on the Nova side. Then we climb
up to the Madrisella with skins and enjoy a cool and
long last run. Afterwards, we review our experience
in peace and quiet over a drink.
WHAT DO FREERIDERS FIND HERE
THAT DOESN’T EXIST ELSEWHERE?
Montafon Sura Kees as a power snack, lots of powder
on alpine lines and real down-to-earth locals.
And of course a lot of freeride mountain experiences
! P
