SPORT 28 Ashburton Courier, November 18, 2021 Five players in national side www.ashburtoncourier.co.nz Smiles on faces, ball in hand Mid Canterbury rugby players Seta Koroitamana, ManasaBari Samo, Adam Williamson and Raitube Vasurakuta have been named in the New Zealand Heartland XV side, set to play against the New Zealand Barbarians next month.Callum Burrell has also beennamed anontravelling reserve. Mid Canterbury manager Tony Harrison has been named New Zealand Heartland XV team manager. Heartland XV head coach Nigel Walsh named 23 players and seven nontravelling reserves.The team features19players who tooktofield in the Bunnings Warehouse Heartland Championship Finalslast weekend; Mid Canterbury played Poverty Bay in the fifth and sixth final at Rugby Park in Gisborne. Walsh saidthe number of players involved in finals matches highlightedthe strength of the side. ‘‘There are 19 players in the finals ... which just shows the calibre of playersinthis squad.It’s been an eightweek selection process watching gamesall over the country and we’re happy that this team is wellbalanced, excitingand has really strong skill sets. She was keen to collaborate with other sports and Mid Canterbury Football and Canterbury Touch had come on board for the festival. Walking netball was agreat option forpeoplewho hadn’t playedfor years or whohad injuries that hadstoppedthem from playing traditional netball, Natalie said. It was also agreat way for people who were not currently active, and anumberofthose whowere now regularsstarted outasgreen prescription clients. “It’s an opportunity for other sports to see there could be a space for them to do it as well, and hopefullyitwillgoas well for them as it has for us,” she said. Games will be running throughout the day and people can come along and join in whenever they like, for aslong as they like. Walking netball attracted a wide range of participants. It runs on aTuesday during school terms, at 9.30am and 6pm, and was attended by both men and women ranging in age from late teens throughto their70s. “Walkingnetballcaters to allabilities.Wesometimes have mumswhohavebeen playing netball for years, playing alongside people who have never touchedanetball before in their lives,” shesaid. “Butwalkingnetballcan be just aschallenging fora premier netballer as it is for anyone else. ‘‘It’s harder thanyou think to stop yourselffromrunning andjumping.” The walking versions ofall threesports on offer are a slower pace and alower impact,comparedtotheir traditional versions, meaning so many more people can participate. The Walking SportsFestival has been made possible with the helpofSportCanterbury andtheTuManawa Active Aotearoa Fund. It wouldrun undercovid AlertLevel 2conditions and numbers would be limited. Allenton Cricket Club Four Seasons Treecare Williamson grade bowler Jack Hislop put up agood performance in his side’s win over club rivals Allenton Mainland Wool during Williamson grade club play last week at the Ashburton Domain. Hislop’s side scored 183/7 after 25 overs; compared to their opponents 159/15. Hislop took one wicket for eight runs off his three overs.
