The trust currently collects rent<br />
from users, but is looking to wind<br />
up.<br />

Called Digital Waitaha,<br />
thetrust’s vision is to see<br />
individualsbe‘‘safe, ethical<br />
and responsible digital<br />
deviceusers’’.<br />

Ellis, who is the principal at<br />
Rakaia School,said<br />
students andfamilieswere<br />
now incredibly familiar<br />
withthe digitalworld,but<br />
theyand newlearners<br />
needed to be supported to<br />
navigatethe landscapes and<br />
holes while surfing the<br />
knowledge wave.<br />

concerned with the<br />
marketing, information and<br />
misinformationour<br />
tamariki aresubject to in<br />
the advertisementsand<br />
linksthatFacebook,<br />

Digital Waitaha hasbeen<br />

‘‘Our aim is to remove<br />
barriers and helpbuild<br />
relationships with our<br />
stakeholderssothey can be<br />
in chargeoftheir learning<br />
with confidence and<br />
support,’’ he said.<br />
With thesupportof<br />
consultants, thetrust will<br />
deliver workshops,reviews<br />
andshare knowledge.<br />
The work will be<br />
supported by donations,<br />
sponsorshipand funding<br />
applications.<br />

visionwas to deliver its<br />
servicesfor free,MrEllis<br />

Sewer project funds spent<br />
Governmentstimulus<br />
fundinglinkedtothe Three<br />
Watersreform package has<br />
been spentand saved<br />
<strong>Ashburton</strong> District<br />
ratepayers $7.98 million.<br />
The moneywas received in<br />
two tranches and has<br />
supported the cost of the<br />
$10m <strong>Ashburton</strong> Relief<br />
Sewer (ARS) project on the<br />
eastern side of town.<br />
Council infrastructure<br />
services group manager Neil<br />
McCann said the ARS<br />
project was acontinuationof<br />
the major upgrades council<br />
had beencarrying outto<br />
futureproof <strong>Ashburton</strong>'s<br />
wastewaterinfrastructure.<br />
Government,via the<br />
Ministry of Internal Affairs<br />
(MIA), had offeredmoneyto<br />
advanceprojects involving<br />
drinking water, stormwater<br />
and wastewater and council<br />
had chosenthe big sewer<br />
upgrade project.<br />
Council had movedquickly<br />
to advance it through the<br />
consentingand tendering<br />
process and the project had<br />
progressed smoothly.<br />
Mr McCann said staff from<br />
the MIA had recently visited<br />
Contractors working on the <strong>Ashburton</strong> Relief Sewer project.<br />

Theyhad been impressed<br />
by thescale of the ARS<br />
project andwhat had been<br />
achieved to date,hesaid.<br />
The upgrade has seen<br />
larger pipes,rangingfrom<br />
600 to 800 millimetresin<br />
diameter, installed<br />
underground for 5.1<br />
kilometres, startingatthe<br />
new <strong>Ashburton</strong> River<br />
crossing pipeline on Milton<br />
Road South and endingon<br />
Bridge Street in Hampstead.<br />
<strong>Ashburton</strong> ContractingLtd<br />
and Seipp Construction have<br />
carriedout the workand the<br />
project is on target to be<br />
finished by the end of March<br />
next year, despite covid<br />
lockdowns andflooding at<br />
the end of May.<br />
