to guide clinicians in interpreting results <strong>of</strong> any study for<br />

PE or DVT. It is hoped that continued improvement in the noninvasive<br />

diagnosis <strong>of</strong> VTE will lead to better understanding <strong>of</strong><br />

the range <strong>of</strong> presentations <strong>of</strong> VTE and its epidemiology, and<br />

will eventually result in better prevention and lower morbidity<br />

and mortality.<br />
