<strong>UMUC</strong> Associate Degrees<br />

Associate of Arts<br />

General Curriculum<br />

The Associate of Arts, General Curriculum is for adult students<br />

who wish to pursue their own educational goals. They may do this<br />

by combining related courses from several disciplines,<br />

exploring several interests at once, or choosing a variety of courses<br />

from throughout the <strong>UMUC</strong>-<strong>Europe</strong> program. Students in this<br />

program accept responsibility for developing a curriculum that<br />

meets their specific objectives. They are encouraged to seek assistance<br />

from academic advisors in arranging their curriculum as<br />

appropriate to their personal interests and future educational<br />

plans. A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 (C) for the<br />

courses completed with <strong>UMUC</strong> is required for the degree.<br />

Summary of General Curriculum Requirements<br />

1. General Education Requirements (32 s.h.).<br />

2. Electives (28 s.h.). Additional courses in accordance with the<br />

student’s interests and goals.<br />

Associate of Arts<br />

Specialized Curricula<br />

The Associate of Arts, Specialized Curricula are for adult students<br />

who wish to pursue a specific career or educational goal, often as<br />

a basis for further study toward the bachelor’s degree. Each of the<br />

specialized curricula has its own requirements. Students should<br />

take careful note of course prerequisites and recommended course<br />

sequence. Curricula may be available only in limited geographic<br />

areas. Student must have a cumulative grade point average of at<br />

least 2.0 (“C”) for the courses completed with <strong>UMUC</strong> and a<br />

grade of at least “C” in each core- and discipline-related course in<br />

the Specialized Curricula degrees.<br />

Accounting<br />

General Education Requirements (32 s.h.)<br />

Accounting Courses (27 s.h., of which at least 9 s.h. must<br />

be completed with <strong>UMUC</strong>)<br />

Accounting Core Courses (15 s.h., of which at least 6 s.h.<br />

must be taken with <strong>UMUC</strong>).<br />

Students must take five core courses from the following list:<br />

ACCT 220 Principles of Accounting I (3)<br />

ACCT 221 Principles of Accounting II (3)<br />

ACCT Any other course in accounting or finance<br />

BMGT Any other course in accounting or finance<br />

MGST Any other course in accounting or finance<br />

(other than MGST 120 or MGST 140)<br />

Accounting-Related Courses (12 s.h.)<br />

Students must take four accounting-related courses from the<br />

following list:<br />

BMGT 110 Introduction to Business and Management (3)<br />

BMGT 230 Business Statistics (3) or<br />

STAT 200 Introduction to Statistics (3)<br />

CMIS 102 Introduction to Problem Solving and<br />

Algorithm Design (3)<br />

ECON 201 Principles of Economics I (3)<br />

ECON 203 Principles of Economics II (3)<br />

MGST 120 Fundamentals of the Accounting Process (3)<br />

Electives (1 s.h.)<br />

Students must choose an additional course in accordance with<br />

their interests and goals to complete the 28 semester hours in<br />

curriculum coursework.<br />

Business and Management<br />

General Education Requirements (32 s.h.)<br />

Business and Management (24 s.h., of which at least 9<br />

s.h. must be completed with <strong>UMUC</strong>)<br />

Business Core Courses (15 s.h., of which at least 6 s.h. must be<br />

taken with <strong>UMUC</strong>).<br />

Students must take five core courses from the following list:<br />
