HEYWOOD IN BLOOM

Heywood Town is

Looking Blooming Lovely

The team at Heywood in Bloom have been busy planting up

in several areas around town ready for this year’s judging.

The allotment is flourishing and lots of vegetables are growing

well. The team who run the allotment have grown everything from

seed and sold lots of seedlings to the public. There has been lots of

repairing and replacing of fences and new beds created along with

a large newly built bug house. Our young helpers from Harwood

Park Primary School have been coming into the allotment each

week and are thoroughly enjoying their growing experience.

We now have our dates for the judging which will be split over

two days 11th /12th July. This year’s judges will be John Shepley

and Anne Gunning, we look forward to taking them on a tour of

Heywood. The library now has saddle baskets as well as the flower

tubs these are planted and the area in front fully weeded. The

library has made a donation by placing a box on their counter.

The boat has had a freshen up with a coat of paint and the summer

bedding is now in place. Our garden in front of the BT building has

been home to our Queens Jubilee banner, the summer bedding is

also in place there. The grassed area has been mowed and edged.

St Lukes Church will be making a first entry this year and we wish

them well. Work is ongoing at the picture frame which will see a

fresh coat of paint and some new summer bedding plants.

The hanging baskets and troughs will soon be in place

these are going to add to our splash of colour across the

town centre. We rely on donations in order to pay for these

planters, baskets, hanging baskets and bedding plants. This

year we have been supported with a generous donation from

Chris Vines at The Face Clinic on Hornby St, Edith & Jim and

Heywood Library. These donations are very kind and we

couldn’t do as much as we do without them.

If you’re passing and you see us at work, we’re always

happy to chat and if you would like to join in you

wouldbe most welcome.
