MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS AND WHAT IS YOUR VISION
FOR THE FUTURE OF THE CAPITAL?
I want to express my gratitude to Diplomatic World and its
readers for such high attention to the capital of our country –
Dushanbe city. Dushanbe, the capital of sovereign Tajikistan, is
the political, economic, and cultural centre of the country, a city
where you can feel the breath of the magic East.
The capital, located in the arms of the picturesque and flourishing
foothills, in the vast emerald valley of the turquoise riverbed,
connects all regions of the country through highways, railways,
and air routes. The majestic gates, created in the four directions
of the capital, embody the traditions of urban planning and a
sustainable urban management system, brotherhood and hospitality
of the inhabitants of the capital.
It is gratifying that Dushanbe, as a scientific and cultural centre
of the republic, is developing dynamically. The reconstruction
of cultural and historical monuments is being carried out, the
improvement of the city continues, and attractive tourist routes
are being created, both in the city and in the suburbs.
Dushanbe changed during the years of independence. In recent
years, architecturally beautiful buildings of the National Library,
the National Museum of Tajikistan, palaces – Kokhi Somon,
Kokhi Navruz, Dushanbe Plaza, and several other objects have
been built in our capital, which has become the pride of the
residents of the capital.
A striking landmark of the city is “Kokhi Navruz”, which embodies
the national tradition of ancient and modern architecture
and the history of our nation. Among modern monuments, one
can distinguish a monument to the founder of the Tajik state,
Ismoil Somoni, and a statue of the poet Rudaki, the founder of
Tajik-Persian classical poetry. In honour of the great classic, a
beautiful Rudaki park with colourful fountains was build.
Dushanbe is famous for its public gardens, parks of culture, and
recreation. Today, there are more than 60 parks and squares in
the capital, divided into 1080 hectares, among which the “Bogi
Iram” botanical garden is the most significant.
Islamic architecture is represented by the mosque and madrasah
of Haji Yakub.
In recent years, about 900 sports facilities of various levels have
been created, the number of which is growing from year to year.
A significant event in the city is the commissioning of the largest
sports complex in the country – the Tennis Palace and a water
sports complex. One of the largest flagpoles in the world has
been built in Dushanbe, the height of which is 165 meters, and
is listed in the Guinness Book of Records.
