WHY MEN’S NAIL
POLISH IS TAKING OFF
MANICURES AND THE
POPULAR SHADES WE CAN
EXPECT TO SEE THIS SUMMER.
Gender-fluid fashion is changing the way we
represent ourselves, allowing our authentic
selves to shine, to be bold and beautiful in
all our uniqueness and to smash stereotypes. And
nowhere are we seeing this more than on the digits of
males in 2022. From celebrities including Harry Styles,
Travis Barker and Machine Gun Kelly sporting fresh
manis and coloured nails, there’s no doubt that men’s
nail polish has taken off. And we’re here for it.
‘Men wearing nail polish has been around from
ancient history all the way through to the 80s punk
scene, but the trend has hit mainstream, with big pop
stars and celebrities adorning their nails in shades that
reflect their red carpet outfit or everyday look,’ says
industry expert Mikele Simone. ‘As another form of
self-expression, nail polish on men has become quite
the norm, especially as gender expression and gender
fluidity has become more accepted. So many male
celebrities like Harry Styles and Machine Gun Kelly
have now also launched their own nail shades.’
