COURSE PROGRAM 2023
Asylum & Immigration
1
2
Neutral, flexible, mindful.
Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted to introduce the ORS Group’s course program for 2023 to you. The ongoing
training and development of our employees is a key component of our services. Our ambition is to
serve and support our clients with empathy and high quality of work to ensure that they are well
looked after. This is only possible with deep expertise in our field.
This course programme is designed to promote individual development and growth, while also
connecting employees across all job roles and countries throughout the ORS Group. Our courses
cover everything from the basics of asylum and immigration to the practical, job-specific skills
you need.
The program is designed to address employees’ needs and relevant current topics. We have
placed emphasis on training that promotes psychological health along with the skills required to
successfully deal with change. We focus on these areas because caregiving in the field of asylum
and migration requires a high degree of resilience and a constructive approach to dealing with
psychological stressors.
We also attach great importance to leadership and management development. Furthermore,
we’d like to highlight to our mentoring program, which is open to both new and experienced
managers. Our new owner, Serco, will also take part in our program with an introduction at
various Lunch & Learn events throughout the year. These will give exciting insights into a diverse
world of services outside of the field of migration. You are invited to broaden your horizon beyond
the walls of ORS and what you already know.
As every year we would also like to invite external participants to join our specialist courses.
We hope that there will be many interesting and educational hours of training to come.
The constant and ongoing development of ORS employees is our top priority.
PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT
The ORS People Development team is responsible
for the training, qualification and further
education of employees. Our responsibility is the
development of all personnel throughout the ORS
Group, including all job functions in Switzerland,
Germany, Italy and Austria. A key element
of this task is our in-house training program,
which we are presenting in this brochure.
Our course cover the basic theory of asylum and
migration as well as practical, job-specific skills.
The courses are led by internal and external
speakers, all of whom are experts and highly
skilled in adult education. Our training is
designed to be highly practical with learning
directly applicable in the workplace. This is
reflected in the variety of methods used in our
courses that place a great deal of importance on
imparting expert knowledge, but also on interactive
working, reviewing work practices and
practical training itself.
The program is based on our employees’ needs
and on relevant current topics.
ORS TRAINING MISSION STATEMENT
Practical focus
Training content and learning objectives are
designed to support the application of newly
obtained knowledge into daily practice. Lessons
learned should be meaningful to everyone’s
unique situation and improve competence in
professional practice.
Reflexive understanding of education
Our training program is based on teaching
theory and practical skills. Our courses are also
developed to promote independence, enable
competent judgement, to exchange experiences
and optimize the transfer of skills and knowledge
into daily practice.
We accommodate different learning styles
by offering a combination of various forms
of teaching as well as independent learning
activities before and after training.
Educational objective in a multicultural
environment
Our training program promotes communication
with other people based on individual
identity. It provides new perspectives on the
world, allowing you to make decisions and
form judgements based on the different viewpoints
that exist within a multicultural working
environment. We aim to promote lasting quality
of care and integration measures.
Quality management
We continuously review and improve the quality
of our training program (planning, delivery,
evaluation). In addition to ISO 9001:2015 certification
our training and development program
is also certified according to EduQua and ISO
21001:2018.
COURSE TESTIMONIALS
‘I really valued the discussions we had within the course “conflict management”.
I was made aware, that there is usually more behind a conflict than first
meets the eye. It’s important to understand background circumstances to find
solutions.’
Melanie Jakob
Office Manager, Zurich HQ, Switzerland
‘The HR training regarding performance reviews was of great value for me and
also my employees. Every decision I make as a manager also influences them,
their professional ambitions and opportunities.’
Bojan Stilinovic
Deputy Operations Manager, Löfflingen BU, Germany
‘The various topics discussed in course covering professional caregiving at
night were extremely interesting and informative for me. I learned what to do
when there’s a conflict and how to de-escalate it. I also know what to do in
emergencies.’
Alfred Kurt Bühler
Night care worker at Bern Return Centre (RZB) in Gampelen, Switzerland
‘The various HR training elements in management module II were useful and
well-structured. They gave me an insight into the basics of employment law,
which will make it easier for me to make decisions as a manager.’
Martin Kinzel
Operations Manager at Sigmaringen State Office for Initial Registration (LEA) and
Deputy Regional Manager (South), Germany
‘I have been able to incorporate a lot of the conflict management course into
my daily life, especially how to remain polite but determined and know it’s
okay to say no. I was also reminded that conflicts shouldn’t be taken personally
and it’s important to stay calm.’
Carina Hartl
Social Worker at Nenzing Initial Reception Centre (EAZ), Austria
Following our motto of ‘lifelong learning’, we look forward to seeing plenty of registrations from
apprentices, trainees and vocational trainers in Switzerland. Vocational training in Germany, as
