If you would like to learn a little more about the history of Gran Canaria and its
ancestors, a visit to the Painted Cave in Gáldar is a must. In this enclave in the
north of the island, in what used to be its capital city, you will find one of the
pre-Hispanic archaeological sites that best represents the life of the aborigines
before the Castilian conquest. A visit for the whole family is free of charge
for children under 18. According to Wikipedia, this site is the "Sistine Chapel"
of the island's ancient dwellers.
Si deseas conocer un poco más la historia de Gran Canaria y de sus ancestros,
la visita a la Cueva Pintada de Gáldar es obligatoria. En este enclave en el
norte de la isla, en su antigua capital, Gáldar, se halla uno de los yacimientos
arqueológicos prehispánicos que mejor representan la vida de los aborígenes
antes de la conquista. Una visita para toda la familia en la que los menores
de 18 años no pagan. Según Wikipedia, es la “Capilla Sixtina” de los antiguos
moradores de la isla.

If you were seduced by the idea of Poema del Mar, why not head to the
very south of the island where there is an equally attractive alternative to
enjoy with the whole family. Palmitos Park is a zoological park located in
a natural enclave with hundreds of native animal species brought in from
all over the world. Tropical birds, pelicans, storks, alligators, lizards, coatis
and meerkats are just some of the surprises that this park has in store for
its visitors.

Palmitos Park es un parque zoológico situado en un enclave natural que
cuenta con cientos de especies animales autóctonas y traídas de todo el
mundo. Aves tropicales, pelícanos, cigüeñas, caimanes, lagartos, coatíes o
suricatos, son solo algunas de las sorpresas que este parque tiene reservadas
a sus visitantes.
7. A picnic or barbecue in a recreational area
The island of Gran Canaria is home to a wide range of leisure and recreational
areas that are perfect for the whole family. Here, you can enjoy all
kinds of activities: from a stroll through natural surroundings, to a picnic
or even a barbecue. Among the many spaces available, we recommend
two that we like very much: La Laguna de Valleseco and the Las Mesas
Recreational Area. Important: please check before you go, as some places
require a reservation or permit.
