40 year Anniversary – 1983 - 2023<br />
Sue and I started RD Avery (Motor Engineers)<br />
in January 1983 with three mechanics and<br />
became a limited company in 2013 trading as RD<br />
Avery Ltd. Initially concentrating on commercial<br />
workshop facilities, this quickly embraced cars<br />
and vans along with MOT facilities. The purchase<br />
of the Seddon Atkinson in 1988 saw us branch<br />
out into the recovery sector. Now 40 years on,<br />
with many challenges and changes along the<br />
way, we now have 40 members of staff across<br />
the Landford and Portsmouth depots. Without<br />
the loyalty, skill sets and dedication of our staff<br />
during those years and of course now, we would<br />
not be where we are today.<br />
This Seddon Atkinson 4 x 2 tractor unit with<br />
a Cummins 250 engine was our first recovery<br />
underlift vehicle. The chassis was extended in house and Guardian in Bury St<br />
Edmunds fitted a Boniface Mk I underlift and built a full locker body. As far as<br />
my memory goes, the rules and regulations back then were very minimal and we<br />
recovered 8 wheelers, artics etc with no problem. How times have changed!<br />
