I sincerely hope that your glampsites are booked up, venues busy and event ticket sales going strong as we head into our prime time. While everyone keeps fingers crossed for sensible weather many outdoor hospitality providers understand that a fall back plan is more than necessary. Investing in communal infrastructure – such as a stretch tent, tipi or cabin – is a great idea. Not only do these structures offer functionality and flexibility but can go a great way to providing a central focal point. A dry covered space can also offer you routes into other business off-shoots – a cafe, venue space, off-season storage area or even all year round use. It was my interest in the ins and outs of such an addition that led to our feature on event tipis. See pages 24-26 on what exactly it takes to put up, look after and store one. More and more glampsites in particular are looking to ‘kickable’ structures in terms of their accommodation choices. We have seen a huge number of cabin and lodge providers enter the market in the last 12 months, many advertising in this issue. Turn to the mini case studies in our annual pods, huts and lodges feature on pages 45-48 for some in depth info. We’ve also started an ‘Introducing’ feature in this issue where we welcome new suppliers to our fold – check out their offerings on pages 10-11 and watch out for more new faces throughout the year. For the event organisers out there I am very happy to share with you the joy of light. Although totally the wrong time of year to be thinking about illuminated trails, creative producer Liz Pugh goes beyond winter spectaculars to help us understand the power of light and fire in creating deep sensory experiences at events.
