Ideas to improve your<br />
home over winter<br />
The weather may keep you indoors<br />
and wanting to stay warm, but winter is<br />
an excellent time to get to those “I’ll get<br />
around to it one-day” renovations. Get a<br />
jump start on spring and keep busy with<br />
some makeovers around the home. You<br />
may even find those hard-to-find tradies<br />
more available in winter for refreshing and<br />

Interior painting and<br />
wallpapering<br />
A new coat of paint on the walls is an<br />
easy way to refresh the room or get a<br />
new look. Perhaps tackle the trims and<br />
paint in a different colour for a minor job.<br />
The finish and drying time will depend<br />
on temperature, timing and moisture.<br />
The recommended temperature for<br />
painting is around 15-16°C, so running<br />
the heat pump before painting will help.<br />
While the paint is drying, open your<br />
windows for ventilation and airflow or<br />
use a dehumidifier to eliminate fumes.<br />
Wallpapering is another winter refresh<br />
option.<br />
Home décor upgrades<br />
An easy cosmetic renovation to change<br />
your room’s look can be as simple as<br />
rearranging furniture, adding or replacing<br />
rugs, or changing the location of wall<br />
decorations (mirrors, artwork, photos,<br />
shelving). Other improvements to freshen<br />
your space include updating drapes,<br />

The spare room can be an extra<br />
functional space for your family’s needs<br />
rather than a dumping area. Set up a room<br />
for overnight guests using a sofa bed or a<br />
wall-hung Murphy bed to save space and<br />
leave the room multifunctional. Another<br />
makeover could transform the spare room<br />
into a fitness home gym, craft and hobby<br />
room, kids’ playroom, home office, or<br />
