ED 472 Senior Research Project in Education (1)<br />
An advanced exploration of the practices and techniques of educational research focusing<br />
on the reading and writing of the background literature, conducting and analyzing<br />
selected action research, and preparing that information for public presentation. Each<br />
student will select an area of research that builds on experience from the student’s field<br />
experiences and design essential questions. The class is seminar format. Prerequisite:<br />
admission to Teacher Education Program.<br />
ED 499 Internship I (1)<br />
A capstone experience in clinical practice that involves full-time assignment to a<br />
collaborative classroom or resource room for four weeks under the joint supervision of a<br />
certified teacher and two college supervisors. Students design, plan, and implement<br />
coordinated learning experiences for special-needs children, attend regular seminars,<br />
engage in independent conferences, and participate in the development of Individualized<br />
Education Programs for special-needs students. Students also prepare a notebook that<br />
includes assigned observations, school-related information, and a daily reflective journal.<br />
Prerequisites: at least junior standing and approval for student teaching internship.<br />

EH 101 Introduction to Academic Writing (1)<br />
An introduction to writing at the college level. As well as providing students with the<br />
tools necessary to construct a well-researched, well-supported academic essay, the course<br />
emphasizes the skills of critical reading and evidence analysis. Prerequisite: placement by<br />
English faculty.<br />
EH 102 Seminar in Critical Thinking and Writing (1)<br />
A seminar on college-level writing and critical inquiry. The course emphasizes clear and<br />
engaging prose, persuasive reasoning, various rhetorical strategies, research<br />
documentation, and standard English grammar and mechanics. Prerequisite: placement<br />
by English faculty. Fall, Spring.<br />
EH 105 CE The Art and Craft of Creative Writing (1)<br />
An introduction to creative writing for first year students. Students will be asked to<br />
review their own work, the work of their peers, and the work of professional writers to<br />
become more skilled at revision and editing. The skills they acquire will be useful in<br />
every writing endeavor they attempt, regardless of their profession, for the rest of their<br />
lives. This course will teach the basic techniques of writing, reading, and evaluating one’s<br />
own work and that of others. Not open to students who have passed EH 205. A Creative<br />
Expression designated course. Prerequisite: placement by English faculty.<br />
