PY 398, 498 EL Teaching Experience in Psychology (1)<br />
A course-based teaching experience in psychology. Psychology is a leading discipline in<br />
the development and implementation of empirically-based teaching and learning<br />
strategies, including meta-cognitive techniques for developing effective study strategies<br />
of difficult material. Under the supervision of a psychology department faculty member,<br />
students will become knowledgeable about the psychological literatures on effective<br />
teaching and learning strategies, will apply this knowledge, and will improve their ability<br />
to communicate science and constructive feedback to peers. May be repeated once for<br />
credit. An Experiential Learning designated course. Prerequisite: Instructor consent.<br />
PY 410 Senior Seminar: History and Systems (1)<br />
An overview of the philosophical and scientific roots of modern psychology. The course<br />
examines the development of modern psychology from its historical origins in<br />
philosophy and the natural sciences to contemporary systems and theory. Prerequisites:<br />
PY 222 and psychology major.<br />
PY 450 Senior Seminar: Advanced Topics in Psychology (1)<br />
An in-depth exploration of contemporary research on selected topics. Topics vary<br />
according to the instructor’s interests. May be repeated for credit when the focus is<br />
different. Instructor consent required. Prerequisites: PY 222, psychology major, and<br />
senior standing.<br />
PY 470 Senior Seminar: Research in Psychology I (1)<br />
Involvement of the student (alone or with other students) in the literature review for and<br />
development of a research project. Topics of research vary according to the interests of<br />
the student and the professor. The project requires the student to write a research proposal<br />
in APA style. Prerequisites: PY 222, psychology major, and senior standing.<br />
PY 472 Senior Seminar: Research in Psychology II (1)<br />
Involvement of the student (alone or with other students) in the development and<br />
execution of a research project. Topics of research vary according to the interests of the<br />
student and the professor. The project typically requires the student to write a research<br />
report in APA style. Prerequisite: PY 470 or PY 499.<br />

RE 110 ES Religious Food Traditions (1)<br />
An exploration of liturgical, orthodox, and popular religious food traditions of<br />
Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, and Vodou. This course will consider both<br />
official and unofficial ritual use of food and drink in the daily lives of religious believers<br />
and practitioners. An Explorations in Scholarship designated course.<br />
