LS 300 EL Leadership Practicum (½)<br />
A real-world application of leadership principles. Distinction in Leadership Studies<br />
students practice leadership by working cooperatively with others to design and complete<br />
a community project. Projects vary by term. An Experiential Learning designated course.<br />
A service-learning integrated course. Prerequisite: LS 200. Fall, Spring.<br />
LS 400 Leadership Studies Capstone (½)<br />
A senior capstone seminar for the Distinction in Leadership Studies program. Students<br />
complete an in-depth study of leadership and a public presentation. Prerequisite: LS 300.<br />
Fall, Spring.<br />
LS 498 Teaching Experience in Leadership Studies (1)<br />
A contracted teaching experience in the teaching of LS 200 or LS 300 under the<br />
supervision of a member of the faculty. This course does not count toward the completion<br />
of the Distinction in Leadership Studies. Instructor consent required. Prerequisite: LS<br />
200.<br />
MA - Mathematics<br />
MA 124 Precalculus Mathematics (1)<br />
A preparation for students who plan to study calculus. This course focuses on modeling<br />
real-world phenomena using polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and<br />
trigonometric functions. An understanding of these functions is developed graphically,<br />
numerically, analytically, and verbally. Not open to students who have passed MA 231 or<br />
equivalent.<br />
MA 150 QA Introduction to Mathematical Modeling (1)<br />
An introduction to important mathematical ideas and their applications in the real world.<br />
This course is not designed for mathematics or science majors, and includes topics from a<br />
variety of mathematical areas at the discretion of the instructor. Possible topics include<br />
population modeling, the mathematics of interest and loans, environmental modeling,<br />
probability, statistics, and the mathematics of social choice. Not open to students who<br />
have passed MA 231 or equivalent. A Quantitative Analysis designated course.<br />
MA 177, 277, 377, 477 Special Topics in Mathematics (1)<br />
An exploration of a selected topic or problem in mathematics.<br />
MA 206 CI The Mathematics of Fairness (1)<br />
An introduction to the ways in which mathematics can be applied to make fair decisions<br />
when the interests of multiple parties must be considered. The course explores different<br />
properties that a “fair” solution should possess as well as the fact that it is not always<br />
possible for a solution to satisfy all such properties. Topics include voting systems, fair<br />
division of resources, apportionment, and gerrymandering. A Community Interests<br />
designated course.<br />
