Explores the relationship between religion and politics in America. Emphasis is placed on<br />
the role of religion in American culture and how religion affects politics. (Also listed as<br />

PS 235 GP Introduction to International Relations (1)<br />
An introductory course focusing on the essential principles, concepts, and theories used<br />
in the political science subfield of international relations. Geopolitics is the guiding<br />
perspective but with an emphasis on the causes of war and conflict. Several other topics<br />
are introduced, including international political economy, international organizations,<br />
human rights, terrorism, migration, social movements, demographics, and the<br />
environment. A Global Perspectives designated course.<br />
PS 238 IA Introduction to Comparative Politics (1)<br />
An introduction to the comparative analysis of political systems and political cultures<br />
across nation-states. The idea of the “best” form of government is explored through<br />
theoretical approaches and empirical evidence. Government performance and policy<br />
outcomes of developed and developing countries are compared and analyzed. An<br />
Interpretation or Analysis designated course.<br />
PS 240 WR Introduction to the Politics of Latin America and the Caribbean (1)<br />
An introduction to the study of politics in Latin America and the Caribbean through the<br />
comparative analysis of historical legacies, human rights, institutions, political culture,<br />
socioeconomic and political development, democracy, populism, authoritarianism, and<br />
leadership. The complex ways in which disasters, violence, crime, and migration interact<br />
in the region provides the analytic framework. A Writing Reinforcement and Leadership<br />
Studies designated course.<br />

An introduction to Africana thought through engaging the works of Frederick Douglass,<br />
