Old Vines Day
The term ‘old vine’ has no legal standing so its perception can vary from country to country,
especially as vines can live for 100 years plus! As a vine generally reaches adulthood at 7 years
old, it is classed as mature from 12 years onwards, becoming ‘old’ (in a good way!) from around 25
years. Vines tend to lose productivity as they age meaning they produce a smaller crop with more
concentrated grapes, resulting in a wine of more complexity.
El Viejo del Valle Pinot Noir
Chile
75cl
Sourced from a small Hacienda in
The Andes where the 40-60 year
old vines enjoy stony soils, glacial
streams and pure mountain air,
resulting in a wonderful Pinot
Noir, full of summer fruits of
red currant, raspberry and wild
strawberries whilst a touch of oak
adds spicy complexity. Enjoy with
marinated ribs, pink lamb and
roasted veggies.
Painted Wolf Black Pack
Old Vine Chenin Blanc
South Africa
75cl
Whilst passionate about wine,
Jeremy Borg’s other love is
conservation, focusing on the
endangered Painted Wolves in
South Africa. Jeremy pays tribute
to these remarkable animals by
dedicating his superb wines to
their name and donating 5% of his
annual turnover to conservation.
Jeremy’s Old Vine Chenin shows
citrus, peach and hints of vanilla
with a creamy finish - perfect with
chicken or BBQ fish.
