ISSUE <strong>59</strong> | 2023 | www.openairbusiness.com WELCOME Infrastructure is a big topic in this issue. All the stuff that goes in and on the ground to make all the fun stuff work. The pumps for the toilets for your pods, the jacks that hold the floor for your marquee, the women’s urinal that cuts the queues for your festival. Basically, all the (on the surface) unsexy yet essential parts of the whole operation. And when you think that more often than not we are looking at low impact or even temporary solutions then a whole new degree of difficulty enters the equation. Take what Fraser Mountford (our Entrepreneur’s Chat candidate) has achieved at Royle Forest Weddings on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border (pages 12-15). We think it might be the largest tipi wedding venue in the UK yet it is entirely dismantled at the end of each season. The only thing remaining is the 400m2 of decking in the middle of a forest. Julian Sayer from Petruth Paddocks confirms the business case for investing in infrastructure – he spent £500,000 on toilet/shower blocks (pages 33-36) and is now turning his attention to the importance of a good F&B offering and child friendly activities. If finding money for infrastructure is a priority then Richard Rampton’s advice on applying for the new Rural England Prosperity Fund will stand you in good stead (pages 38-39).
