Getting In & Around
About a three-hour, scenic drive from New Zealand’s
biggest city, Auckland, Pauanui is wonderfully secluded. If
you want to do it without hiring a car, you can hop on a Go
Kiwi shuttle bus instead.
Things to See & Do
You can’t spend time in Pauanui without getting a little bit
of sand between your toes. Whether you’re sunbathing,
taking out a sea kayak, or simply strolling along the wide
beach, it’s the perfect place to spend some time in the
fresh air. You can take surf lessons with the instructors at
the Outback Surf Shop, or even try your hand at stand-up
paddleboarding if you like things a little bit more relaxed.
If you like a challenge, hike up Mount Pauanui for the best
view of the surrounding countryside.
Food & Drink
When you’re in town, you’ll need to check out The Local.
It’s a friendly spot that does proper Kiwi grub like calamari
salad and, of course, beer-battered fish and chips.
Accommodation
With all this fresh air and exciting outdoor activities to get
stuck into, you’re going to need somewhere with comfy
beds and a warm welcome. The Pauanui Pines Motor
Lodge is the ideal place to kick back and relax. The spacious
rooms and complimentary bicycle hire are brilliant.
