Famous for its part in the Australian Gold Rush, the
town of Beechworth exploded in size and population
halfway through the 19th century. The centre of town is
remarkably well preserved with plenty of historic buildings
to check out, as well as the excellent Burke Museum
with its collection of ephemera related to the infamous
Bushranger Ned Kelly. Don’t forget to check out the miles
of excellent biking and hiking trails around the town.
