EYE on business
Caring approach of eye and hearing specialists
SPECSAVERS Norton is locally run, yet supported by the major
eyecare network, to provide high quality and affordable
services.
The store opened over five years ago at St James Retail Park,
Meadowhead, led by partners Jennifer McGrath, Dispensing
Optician Director, and Anne Hides, Optometrist Director. Within
months of opening, Specsavers Norton achieved Platinum
Employer status.
And the business has now grown from offering seven sight test
clinics per week to at least 20, with three contact lens clinics and
two hearing clinics per week provided by a team of more than 20
colleagues.
Specsavers Norton offers a full range of eye health and hearing
services, such as eye tests, contact lens fittings and aftercare, as
well as hearing tests.
It has a wide choice of quality and fashionable eyecare products,
including glasses and contact lenses, plus hearing aids, with the
buying power of the Specsavers brand keeping prices competitive.
As well as the standard eye test to check vision and eye health
using a variety of different testing techniques, Specsavers Norton
offers an advanced examination involving an OCT scan.
OCT, which is recommended for 25-year-olds and above, stands
for Optical Coherence Tomography. It is hospital-grade
technology which uses light waves to take over 1,000 images of
the back of the eye, right back to the optic nerve.
The created 3D image can help opticians detect early signs of
treatable conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and
macular degeneration before people experience any symptoms.
In fact, the scan can help to spot glaucoma up to four years earlier
than traditional imaging methods.
The test only takes a minute-or-so and costs £10. Having the
advanced scan every two years, or as recommended, can help
opticians track any changes over time.
Jennifer said: “Early detection of any eye problem is so important
own the store,
so your care is
their business!
so it can be managed before it gets worse.”
She added that the practitioner-patient relationship is at the
heart of Specsavers Norton’s professional and caring approach.
She commented: “After five years, we’re seeing lots of returning
customers, which is lovely.”
