EYE on business
New independent boutique
SEAMSTRESS Christie McKenna
(pictured) is the owner of the Little
Corner Boutique which opened in
Dronfield Civic Centre at the
beginning of this year.
Christie, who has a degree in
fashion design, worked at the
previous shop in the unit and was
made redundant when it closed
down. She decided to start her very own boutique selling
affordable womenswear, with an alterations service.
The shop’s range includes women’s clothing, bags, accessories,
jewellery, plus sustainable styles under Christie’s own brand
CHRISTIANA, designed and hand-made entirely in the shop.
Christie said the business has enjoyed a successful start,
commenting: “I live locally and knew the previous shop would be
missed by our loyal customers.
“I wanted to create an affordable clothing shop, whilst also
trying out my own business ideas, including sustainable clothing,
and introducing the alterations service, which has increased, and
I’m so grateful for the customers support and reviews.
“I offer one-of-a-kind styles, comfortable and casual, but not
identical to the usual high street clothing, so customers can find
exactly what they’re looking for. Also with the alterations service
I can alter the clothes to ensure they fit as you’d like. I offer
these alterations FREE for stock items!”
The business has a website and Facebook and Instagram
pages.
FIREPLACE Factory & Stove Centre Sheffield has been
established for over 40 years on Aizlewood Road, off
Abbeydale Road.
What was initially a full manufacturing business has gradually
moved into retailing as well, and the owners, David Payne and
Karl Ibbotson, thrive on finding solutions for their customers.
The premium brands they stock have been carefully selected as
offering the best products at each price point and in every
situation.
Fireplace Factory specialises in fireplaces of all types, gas
stoves, wood-burning stoves, gas fires, electric fires, chimney
installations, and chimney flue installations.
As well as expanding the product range and displays over the
years, Fireplace Factory has also developed its expert installation
service and staff are fully competent in all types of gas, electrical
and woodburning installations. This means the needs of any
fireplace enquiry coming in can be met.
David said most of the company’s customers come from the
local area and within the South Yorkshire and north Derbyshire
region.
He explained: “We provide attentive service and expert
knowledge acquired over the last 40-or-so years, together with
our friendly, non-pushy showroom approach.
“I think it’s our customer service and the fact that we deal with
the some of the best products in the UK which has kept us in
business all of these years.
“The pandemic was a huge challenge that we’d never
54
One-stop location for stylish fireplaces
encountered before but we were able to work within the
restrictions and still managed to offer great service to all of our
customers.
“In more recent times, the energy crisis has added extra
enquiries as customers come to us for advice on how we can
help them to manage the heating costs more effectively.”
Looking to the future, David and Karl intend to keep the same
successful approach to their business.
“We’ll keep on doing what we have always done, adding
innovative new products to our showroom, and offering the very
best level of service… far beyond what any of our competitors can
provide,” added David.
