2023:
SO FAR SO GOOD
We are already approaching the final months of 2023 - a
year that started with plenty of optimism with regards to the
global economic and political situation. So, has it lived up
to its expectations?
On the one hand, major international crises haven’t improved
much - the Ukrainian war still doesn’t seem to be reaching
a conclusion, while tensions are lingering in many other
regions of the world. Furthermore, a huge global population
shift resulting in hard to control immigration is complicating
matters even more for governments in Europe and the USA.
On the other hand, the economy has shown some slow but
significant improvements: inflation keeps cooling down,
making it a little easier for central banks to put an end to the hike in interest rates which has
really been putting a strain on corporate finances and commercial banks.
Looking more closely at our industry, we can see a generally positive trend led by the big
multinational groups that have announced double-digit turnover growth for 2023, even if in
some cases profit has been subjected to a reduction of margins applied to curb inflation.
Small and medium enterprises in the professional hair & beauty industries have also published
growth in turnover with export contributing to this positive trend.
In this not-so-reassuring global scenario, it is surprising and encouraging to witness the great
enthusiasm of entrepreneurs of our sector who keep working hard, investing and believing
in the future of our industry. We have met many of them, especially during the recent trade
exhibitions such as MCB by Beauté Selection Paris of Beautyistanbul.
From our point of view, it was really comforting to see how busy these trade fairs were - full
of people, entrepreneurs, buyers, importers, distributors and manufacturers looking for the
opportunity to start or grow their businesses. The Middle East is particularly buoyant, while
the Far East is catching up after the downturn following the pandemic. China seems ready to
revamp its market and many foreign companies in our sector are counting on this rebound.
Enthusiasm is the key word and we’re expecting great success at Beautyworld Middle East in
Dubai and Cosmoporf Asia, which returns to Hong Kong to regain its leading role in the Asian-
Pacific area.
As always, EsteticaExport will be there to support everyone in the hair & beauty industry.
