A smart new functionality on Solvay’s ERP system is making time-consuming administrative transactions a thing of the past. e-Invoice does away with manual data entry, printed documents and snail-mail by automating this process and delivering offi cial documents to trading partners in a secure digital format via the Elemica Network, a third party provider dedicated to the chemicals industry. By sharing this service, partners enjoy interconnected communications, automatic integration of data in their ERP systems, and transparent order management. e-Invoice delivers signifi cant economic and environmental savings by reducing the time spent on everyday administrative tasks and eliminating paper, printing and postage costs. INTEGRATED ACCESS TO ELECTRONIC SCIENTIFIC RESOURCES (E-LIBRARY) Single window for the electronic library THE PROJECT. Ordering any type of article or document from one’s own computer, using a single intranet portal, has become possible, even with a partial bibliographic reference. The e-library system fi rst checks all current subscriptions at Solvay and the internal databases. If the article is available, a link to the document in pdf format appears in a few seconds. Otherwise, the system compares the availability of the document from selected publishers, chooses the least expensive and then proposes a pre-fi lled form to confi rm the order. A confi rming click and the article is e-mailed within 48h. It couldn’t be more simple! Until now, the various electronic resources (e-magazines, databases, document orders) proposed to the Solvay group by the documentation management of Intellectual Assets Management and Pharma Scientifi c Information were not inter-linked. Users had to move from one site to another and copy / paste document references. The integration project has brought together all these tools, enabling users to navigate easily from one source to another, whatever their point of entry (Internet, databases...). This device is also designed to collect statistics that allow optimal management of subscriptions. The heart of the system is the OpenURL link resolver “SFX”, coupled with the identifi cation of the user, his entity, as well as the publications which he has access to. SFX offers a context menu to each user according to his access permissions, opening the way to literature accessible at all times. HIGH PRESSURE REINFORCED THERMOPLASTIC PIPE (RTP), FOR ONSHORE AND OFFSHORE SERVICE Soluforce: a pipeline of ideas THE PROJECT. Smaller marginal gas and oil fi elds lying close to shore, mainly in northern Europe, the Gulf of Mexico, the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea, have not so far been exploited, owing to low productivity in relation to operating costs including that of essential corrosionresistant steel piping. Pipelife has already gained experience with Soluforce, a range of thermoplastic pipes which are much cheaper in use, resistant to pressure, designed to carry water or oil and in which constant pressure is maintained by the use of aramid (a type of nylon) fi bers. But this is not enough for the deposits in question, where resistance to pressure, temperature and corrosion are required. Soluforce has therefore been improved as follows: to increase pressure resistance the aramid fi bers have been replaced by a lattice of high strength steel; for average temperatures, an inner layer of nylon 12 has been introduced; and fi nally for high temperatures and highly corrosive environments, the inner layer is in PVDF, the fl agship product of Solvay Solexis. The Soluforce based on nylon 12 was developed in partnership with Wintersall / BASF for exploiting an oilfi eld in the Netherlands. It has been certifi ed by Bureau Veritas and should be approved by the Dutch authorities during summer 2009. The fi rst sales of this high performance pipe are planned for 2010.
