SOLVAY TV AND MULTIMEDIA SCREENS
Affordable dynamic
displays
THE PROJECT. Solvay has developed a
high-performance electronic communications
network, but the Group still lacked a fl exible and
effective medium to reach audiences without
access to the company’s IT network, including
visitors and certain groups of outside
collaborators. A technical solution has been
developed for all Group entities that wish to place
dynamic displays on their sites, combining high
quality ‘corporate’ content with specifi c content
of their choice - at a very reasonable cost.
The system also opens the way for the creation of
a Solvay TV channel, which could be incorporated
into the Group’s web galaxy.
SOLVAY JUMPS INTO THE HIGH-TECH
WORLD OF ORGANIC ELECTRONICS
Diving into the future
THE PROJECT. The development of organic
electronics prefi gures many extraordinary
applications like lighting walls, electronic
newspapers and television screens so thin that
they can be rolled up.
Solvay has decided to propel itself into this
fascinating world with a radically new open
innovation approach. Starting from scratch,
we have contracted out research programs
to top-ranking academic institutions, in order to
accelerate the learning phase.
To develop our ideas and to bring them to the
industrialization stage, we need to gain know-how
in materials synthesis, purifi cation and testing.
The synthesis strand could be easily developed
based on skills and laboratories already available
to the Group. But producing realistic test
structures for evaluating these new electronic
organic products was a completely new area for us.
Through the mobilization of New Business
Development, the recruiting of specialist
researchers, exchanges of information and the
contribution of partners such as Georgia Tech,
Plextronics, IMEC and Materia Nova, we have
quickly positioned ourselves as a credible partner
for companies active in the fi eld of organic
electronics. We are now ready for a new
challenge: to create value for Solvay as quickly as
possible.
